MX5 intermittant misfire 4 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Our local garage, with the help of the local Mazda franchise, can offer no solution as it has never happened whilst the car is at the garage. Diagnostic testing has shown no faults. The car is serviced according to the manufacturer's requirements and has covered 58,000 miles. New plugs, filters and an engine flush have not solved the problem. -
Dacia Sandero - TPMS 29 Nov 2015 (Forum)
Are the valves/is the system affected by temperature? 3. If one or more valves are now u/s, is this covered by warranty? 4. Does the car gave to go to a dealer to have the warning light reset? 5. Is it possible/legal (if it is a valve system) to replace the valves with 'proper' ones and switch off the TPMS? -
Parking charge advice needed! 8 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Essentially, I received a letter from Parking Eye, demanding payment of £100 (£40 if paid within x days) for my stay in a car park of theirs at the end of November. Now I'll readily admit I did not buy a ticket, but in my case I pulled the car into a bay in a barely full car park, and did not actually leave the vehicle at any point. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 stalling, losing power. 16 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Anyway it seemed to do the trick but now the car is even worse. The most common at the moment is when the car wants to stall once i press the clutch down in traffic. The revs die and probably on a 50-50 basis the car stalls or barely stays alive. -
Eceptionally low milage 7 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I am thinking about buying a second car, details: August 04 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x4 A/T V8 5.4 Litre 2,000 Klms Used occasionally during visits. The car is parket under cover and engine started every 2weeks with A/C operating etc for a good half hour. -
Peugeot 306 - Buying an old used one! 26 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I have just had a garbled message form daughter that I have been detailed off to give a used Peugeot 306 Diesel the once over on behalf of her boyfriend who is useless! I have printed out the car by car breakdown from the HJ site so can see the recurring bits and bobs - so happy with that. However, I thought she said it was a 1992 1.9 Diesel and this is not covered in the 306 dates, so assume that must be my error and the car is a 93 or a 94. -
VW Golf GT TDI 115/130 - Should I buy? 8 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I'm after a relatively low cost car (approx £8000-£9000) to cover 35000miles per year in. I'm opting out of a company car scheme in my next job. At the moment I drive an 04 reg Mondeo 2.0 (128bhp) Diesel with the 6-speed box. Now, having had a browse around and look at a couple of cars I can get my hands on, for example, a 2002 02 reg Golf GT TDI 130 for £9000 with between 80 & 90,000 on the clock with fully stamped VW service history (generally one dealer doing all the servicing) My question is this - is this a wise move, or should I be looking at something with lower mileage. -
Audi TDI 110 Decline 9 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I run a 97 A4 1.9 TDi SE 110.I purchased the car approx 3 years ago,its mileage was 96k.Its given sterling service with plenty of poke and superb economy since. However in the past few weeks I have noticed the car to be well down on power and torque to what it once was.The mileage is now 165k and since I have owned the car it has had 5k synthetic oil changes and doesn`t use any oil to this date.It also has regular air filter replacement the last one just days ago.It has had regular use of diesel power plus fuel addative and regular italian tune ups. There does however seem to be the beginnings of an oil leak at the front of the engine in the area of the camshaft end/rocker cover and the car has become a bit smokey of late. The question is what could be the cause of the recent decline in performance? -
Extended Warranties 31 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Get the system pressure tested at a Vauxhall franchised dealer - fails test. Car not driven any further. Garage removes heads and finds that the whole cooling system is clogged with emulsified oil/coolant. Car needs new radiator, heater matrix, head gaskets, oil cooler, etc, etc - the best part of £2,000. -
Ferry costs. 4 Aug 2002 (Forum)
but covered by my insurance policy. However, DFDS want £230 for a one way service to bring the car back unaccompanied. So I asked them how much for me to travel on a return ticket from Harwich to Cruxhaven, collect the car and return the same day. -
Fiesta Automatic Problems 17 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Most certainly was the reply ! How come this is not publicised ? More importantly why is it not in Honest John's Car-by-Car Breakdown - Breakdown ! - which I always check before buying any car. Not blaming John but I did a lot of research before buying but never got a hint anywhere. Anyone have a similar problem ? -
Car ownership trends after lockdown 27 Jun 2020 (Forum)
A complete waste of money staring car owners in the face With people working from home much more, budgeting for double or triple vehicle ownership makes absolutely no sense. My wife and I have one car which has covered little more than 20 miles since march. -
Audi A4 Cabriolet - Strange smell through car vents 31 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Hello everyone. I would really appreciate some help with this. my car has a strange oily smell coming through the car vents inside the car. It seems very strong when the car is stood at idle, when it’s on the go I can barely smell anything. I have put some engine cleaner in and about to get the oil and filter changed again but I am not sure that’s going to fix it. -
Any - Plod's luxury cars 3 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I see the A1(M) around my way is now sprinkled with lots of coppers 'spy' cars - the jam sandwich is no more. What I find rather incongruous is that they are all brand new Mercedes, BMW and Audis. Austerity obviously doesn't apply to this lot. Bleating about cuts is one thing, but rolling out in a car most of us can't afford (as a private car anyway) sticks in the throat. -
Toyota Carina E - Happy As Larry 2 Jun 2012 (Forum)
The car is great and really reliable, averages 48mpg . The best bit is that it cost me £500. I love the car and just had to share this with you as i find a lot of the items on the back room tend to just cover the negative side of motoring on the cheap. -
Ford Fusion 1.4 Petrol 2004 - Ford Fusion EAD Fail indicated 8 Nov 2010 (Forum)
The weather had been very wet with storm force rain previously. However the car is always outside and such conditions are not uncommon in Bolton ( it has not happened previously in 3 yrs of ownership.) She has used my car for the past week and I have covered about 200 miles in the Fusion with no problem at all. -
My car's rubbish in the snow - how's yours? 3 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Pulled into a layby on the way back from Southport. The main road was clear, but the layby was covered in what I would call 'crunchy slush'. I got out of the car to get to the boot and did not feel under threat of falling over. But when I tried to pull away, all I got was wheelspin and chattering from the traction control. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Surely this car can use any Diesel sold in UK ? 8 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Further repairs will not be covered by guarantee and I am facing a bill of potentially £1800 or more (estimated) to replace these parts. I have used all brands of fuel (from brand name stations and from supermarkets). Surely a 2006 car from a major manufacturer should be able to run on any diesel fuel sold in the UK? -
Car accident 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Please advise what if anything we can do about this? The stress is making her ill. She had legal cover on her insurance so would this current claim be covered by this? -
Insurance- car not owned 11 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I know the usual old chestnut: My insurance says I can driver a car belonging to someone else (TP only cover), but what this really means is that car ALSO has to have insurance. However, I have just noticed that my new Tesco insurance, while saying the usual bit about driving another car not owned or hired etc, explains in the policy that this only applies if ?
