Ford Focus 2016 - Retractable Tow Bar 11 May 2021 (Forum)
Electronic automatic retractable tow bar is not working. Car is 5 years old, I've had it for 14 months and never used the tow bar. I need it in a couple of days so thought I would test it first. Saw how to do it on a youtube video and tried the same thing on mine today without success. -
a Newer car. Used. Your suggestions 30 Jan 2021 (Forum)
My budget is no more than £ 8000. Used car, but a reliable, economical main condition and an automatic, preferably Japanese. My very old diesel Volkswagen Lupo is completely unusable. And now I want a more comfortable car and a bigger one. I was thinking about a Lexus ct200h or Toyota Prius, but from the review I understud that a hybrid is more of a city car. -
Vauxhall Corsa - Retrofitted alternative for OnStar for UK 29 Jul 2020 (Forum)
The main features I am looking for are: Must work in the UK - Essential Automatic SOS calling to Emergency Services in case of an accident - Essential Location Tracking via an app on an Android device/smartphone - Essential Vehicle Diagnostics - Preferred but not essential I am not technically minded, so ideally, the device's vendor could also come out and fit it for me. -
BMW 4 Series Convertible? Any thoughts? - Manual petrol convertible for a tall driver >5 cyl 17 May 2020 (Forum)
Convertible means I can enjoy it without too many speeding tickets so a nice exhaust note would be fantastic. I don't like automatics it feels like the clutch is worn out, but could be convinced ;-) Any thoughts? I'm 6'4" 110kg. -
If you could choose one foot operated device... 16 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Now that we're heading inexorably towards a world of automatic hybrid/electric propulsion and within a few years manual gearboxes will be a distant memory... Without wanting to get into the left-foot braking debate, if you could choose one foot-operated car gadget to give the soon-to-be idle left foot something to do, what would it be? -
Ford Galaxy - Ford Galaxy OBD app 20 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Hi Folks, I have a 2003 Ford Galaxy MkII Automatic Petrol 2.3 engine. I'd like to get something that would allow me to read and reset fault codes, specifically the Gearbox Control Module, but ideally all codes. I think my two options are a bluetooth OBD device and an app like Torque Pro, or a Diagnostic scanner tool off eBay like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FAULT-CODE-READER-ENGINE-SCANNER-DIAGNOSTIC-RESET-TOOL-OBD-2-CAN-BUS-EOBD/360501633047 . -
Any - Mpv - any with T/C auto? 17 Jun 2019 (Forum)
I am looking for a used mpv with a torque converter automatic gearbox. Must be petrol and have a budget of around £10k. Any recommendations? I am disabled and have three teenagers. Currently have a kadjar and the knees of the passenger behind me is tight. -
Nissan X-Trail - x-Trail models 22 Mar 2019 (Forum)
These have proven to be the ideal height after comparing other 4x4's, but there is a problem and thats which model and how do you work out the difference between them all to narrow down your searches. I am not looking at the new style and much prefer an 8-10 year old automatic diesel that has been looked after and wont need lots of work to keep going. I will be doing under 10k a year but will be using green lanes to get to work at times. Any advice would be gratefully received. -
Jeep Cherokee - Can I Soup Up the Power Steering? 11 Mar 2019 (Forum)
I just bought a Jeep Cherokee and my back is in flames every time I drive it. It's a 2015 Automatic Diesel so it's fairly new and has reasonable power steering but it just feels 20% heavier than my old Hyundai (IX35) and my back seems to be responding badly to it. I'm really not enjoying the ride and wanted to explore my options before I sell it at a big loss. -
Police tailgating me when I touched my phone? 16 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I was scrolling on my music app on a phone holder when I saw a police jeep come up behind me. I automatically switched it off and continued driving but they didn't pull me over. After that I was driving but it kept on following me. I drove 40mph in a 40 zone but the jeep was driving at 30. Whilst I couldn't see them I quickly hid the phone on the seat so that they wouldn't see it. -
Renault Symbol 1.6 L - Renault Symbol 1.6 not cranking when hot 15 Jul 2017 (Forum)
My daughter has a Nissan Platina (Renault Symbol in disguise) with a 1.6L engine. It's an automatic. The problem is that it will not crank at all when hot, starts up perfectly when cold or cool and can be driven all day long. Repairs done so far: - Replaced battery - Replaced starter and cabling - Installed heat protection on starter - Swapped around relays in the engine bay Suspect: Some sensor inhibiting cranking? -
Mitsubishi - What's the point in Mitsubishi these days? 29 May 2017 (Forum)
Shoguns with electronically adjustable shocks, hydraulic suspension (on very high spec ones at least), automatic gearbox tech that even Porsche made use of... rear wheel steering on saloons, smooth v6 engines.. the Sigma was a brilliant car as well, check out this 1990 top gear review- https://youtu.be/q_Gfdr8orOM What on earth happened? -
General - Car purchase advice 4 May 2017 (Forum)
I've been looking st the Dacia Duster to the Ford Focus but no set ideas. Any ideas on something that would retain a reasonable trade in value ? I like automatics but not essential and a DAB radio would be nice. Thanks for reading and advice. -
Nissan Mirca CVT transmission good reliability? 28 Jan 2017 (Forum)
I am help my daughter to find her very first car for cheap to running and to insure. But when I hear the word CVT sound very complications, I went search on Google to see how it works, when I see a picture of the chain/rubber belt inside the transmission do this required to replace like the timing belt? -
Best car to buy 21 Jul 2016 (Forum)
As I cover around 20,000 miles per annum, I am looking at a diesel, preferably a hatchback without the dreaded Dual Mass Flywheel. So an automatic or a one with a new flywheel I'm aware these engine have a poor reputation for injector seals and Turbo failures, I've recently done the seals on mine and still have plumes of white smoke in the morning on a cold start. -
Renault grand scenic - accelrator pedal sticking 30 Dec 2015 (Forum)
This has caught me out on several occasions and I have had to either hit the accelerator hard to bounce it back up or get my foot behind it to pull it back. It is nothing to do with floor mats catching either. I have been told that it is to do with automatics if the car is converted. Is this right? It is certainly a worrying feature for manual drivers. I am reluctant to let my children drive it for this reason. I have replaced the pedal but this 'feature' is still there. -

Ford Focus 1.6 Sport 2006 - How to tell if engine is 100ps or 115ps 20 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Hi, I'm about to purchase a 2006 Ford Focus 1.6 Sport, the advert in autotrader stated that it had 113 bhp. The garage I'm buying it from says that autotrader automatically populates this data based on the registration number, and he was pretty sure it was accurate. When I entered the registration number into direct line forms for insurance quotes today though, it returned "Ford Focus 1.6I (100) Sport 5dr", the "100" making me think it might actually be the 100ps engine. -

Citroen C4 VTR+ HDi 5 door - Long high speed cruises, comfort and not too wide 5 May 2015 (Forum)
We need to replace it with a comfortable car with reasonable carrying volume and max width of 2000mm to go into a narrow village street. Automatic, cruise and speed control essential, and diesel preferred as it's much cheaper in France and likely to remain so. Prefer used car, max 2 years old and budget up to £20k. Any suggestions??
