• Volvo V40 - Volvo V40 Residuals 2 Sep 2014 (Forum)
  Being, as I am, after n 18-month-old economical hatchback for around £15k, I've now done the rounds of the 116d ED, the A3 1.2 TSi petrol (because it seems so efficient) and the Golf 1.6 TDI, then on the way back, favouring the A3, I passed a Volvo dealer and dropped in. I'm going to keep for 3/4-ish years and put around 18k miles on the clock each year, all were 13-regs. What surprised me was that the Volvo V40 D2 (and seemingly according to Autotrader as well) is the most expensive of the lot, by around £1k over the Audi, and nearly £2k over the BMW/Golf even after negotiation - truth be told the Volvo dealer didn't really move unlike the rest, but prices generally seem higher like-for-like.

  I'd like another Volvo V70 but I'm not a fan of the new shape and the older shape (same as my current one) seem expensive second hand over there unless they have intergalactic mileage. I've recently been looking at a Honda Accord Tourer (2009 model) diesel which seems to carry as much, if not more than the Volvo and seems good on motorways for comfort too.

  I'd go for that so I thought I'd ask them to quote me a price for an upgrade. The volvo was looking a little unloved, I do have to say, after the kids had done their worst, the water bottle had split (£14) and volvo claimed it needed £500 on new headlights (didn't, it sailed through its MOT a week later with no work on the at all) - it did have 4 brand new tyres, Anyway I digress - I was offered 20% loyalty discount on a new volvo, and the paltry sum of £3,400 for mine.

  Hi Guys I'm new to diesel's and Volvo, what should the idle revs be on the 2.5l turbo diesel W reg? If its high, about 1250 rpm would this indicate a problem? Regards Gordon

      It's not necessarily for a large family, just be good to have decent boot space.   Volvo is the option I'm swaying to, pricey to service and maintain I know, but my old man used to work for volvo specialists and they are very reliable diesel engines, the D5 is the one I'm after, if I opt VOLVO.

  I've got a Volvo 240SE fitted with a Volvo TD-603 Radio Cassette player. Problem is that the battery was disconnected; and now the Radio Cassette needs the 4-digit security code to allow it to operate. I haven't got the security code, I've checked all the manuals I got with the car and I can't find it anywhere.

  I've been looking at '95 plate Honda Civics, Skoda Fabia Estate 1.4 diesels and  lately, the Volvo V50 Estate. I'm quite taken with the Volvo, looking at them in dealers yards it seems to be solid, well built and attractive. I'm not so sure about the reliability though. A few horror stories around the internet, which seem to centre on the 2.0litre diesel(poor fuel economy, engine probs) I wonder if the 1.6 diesel unit is a better, more reliable unit.

  Following on from my Volvo S60 thread, I would appreciate some advice on buying 2nd hand from a main Volvo dealer. I have a Toyota Corolla to trade in. So if I do this through the Volvo dealer, what sort of movement will the dealer be willing to give on a 2 year old S60 (say about £13-£14K)?

  As well a an all-electric range by 2030, Volvo have just issued a press release that they will also be an online only brand at that time. Dealers will still be there for preparing, delivering and servicing cars, but cars will be ordered online.
