Volkswagen Golf (2004 - 2008)
2.0 GTI T-FSI 5dr Auto Hatchback
Dependable and inconspicuous.
Rarely misses a beat. Goes through brake discs and pads every 2 years. Rear brake calipers both seized so replaced with TRW parts (same as OE and from same factory, only lacking VW stampings and a fraction of the cost). DSG gearbox fault free if serviced on schedule, but has to be refilled through the drain plug underneath using a u-tube of hose with 24mm threaded fitting. Unstoppable in the snow when on winter tyres - copes well in the alps every Christmas. 16" VW steel wheels fit and clear the front brakes - ideal choice for winter tyres. Top of front wheel arches rusty - they all do that, sir. If you hear a clanking from the rear over bumps, check to see if the rear brake splash guards haven't fractured: both sides on ours broke within 6 months of one another - requires rear brakes and rear wheel bearings removed to fit the relatively cheap part.
