great fun sometimes and quirky

Like all cars, once you have had it a while you find things you don't like. The two things that do it for me are the gearbox, which jumps down to 1st when you go around a corner sometimes when you have had the car in 2nd so the thing thrashes the engine, and the fuel economy.
We have a prius, which returns 59mpg on average, carries 5 and the dogs, runs to the dump etc and has a nice low tax band. The smart, a passion with paddle shift, does about 42mpg which sort of defeats the object of it in the first place. My wife loves it though, and whizzes about in it, and I enjoy it when I use it but am a bit nervous on corners as it understeers. As the mileage is creeping up on the toyota, I have started using the Smart for the 17 mile commute into work, mainly country A and B roads plus a bit or town work, and I find myself filling up more than the prius so decided to work out the MPG.
Also, the doors are massive, so while you can crash land it in small spaces, if someone parks too near, it is a wotsit to get back into it. Had this with coupes I have had in the past but didn't think of it with the Smart.
In short (no pun) seats are great, cabin is a nice place to be, great for gaps and town, too dear to run and buy and the eco is annoying at roundabouts when the engine cuts out each time you break as you try and push onto a busy roundabout. you can turn it off, but as it is not my 'daily driver' I have to work out where the button is every time.
