Good little runabout

Having driven my brother’s 1.4 petrol Clio quite a lot I was tempted to try one for my self. I do not regret it. I opted for the cheaper to run 1500cc diesel with around 90,000 miles on it (sold it at 110,000). Over the 2 years of having this car I achieved around 60mpg which is excellent. Along with great economy, the car has very cheap road tax - something like £30 a year.

The diesel variant of the Clio didn’t have quite the same nippy punch as the 1.4 petrol, but it was still capable enough to keep up with traffic and well worth it for my wallet. It’s also extremely easy to drive, and has comfortable enough seats. I will say that at motorway speeds there’s quite a lot of wind noise - but nothing worse than what any of its rivals of the same age would have.

Being a Renault you would expect problems. However I’d give this (and my mk3 Clio) a 4/5 for reliability. The only small issues I had where the exhaust mount, windscreen washer pump and hazard warning switch failing. All of which were fairly in expensive to fix and were done so by my local Renault Specialist. They also serviced and MOTd my Clio and it wasn’t too expensive (only failure the hazard switch and no advisories).

Dynamique trim adds luxuries such as auto lights, central remote locking and some nice seats. I loved it and wouldn’t go for a lower trim level.

My only complaints with this Clio is the sunroof had a tendency to squeak on occasion, the aforementioned road noise at speed and rear seats don’t have loads of room (small car though not a Mercedes E Class)

Overall I would say that (especially at the price they are now days) it is a great little hatchback, much better than the Vauxhall Corsa and even something like an AyGO and that you won’t be disappointed.
