Love the car

I love the Mazda 6, it is a great car and it was good to drive. The steering was good and I could imagine myself having driving fun in country roads.

I bought a low mileage Mazda in April 2016, however, the car would sometimes make a 'crunching' noise when changing gears from 2nd to 3rd. I did not think the gearbox, was particularly slick. Returned the car to the dealer who said need it needs a new gearbox, clutch kit and release bearing!!. Shock! Frightened the life out of me, as I have had Japanese cars, and a trait is good engineering and trouble free motoring.

With great sorrow, I decided to return the car for a refund.

I did phone Mazda dealers and check on Mazda forums, but this was an unusual case and not common.

The 1.8TS felt a tiny bit underpowered, but fine if your drive for comfort.

Compared to other cars:
----------------------
It beats Toyota Verso (yawn yawn) hands down. Has better sounding engine then to Mondeo and Insignia (petrol). The Qashqai (pre 20014) has a better quality engine, gearbox and steering, but Mazda is more enjoyable to drive. The Mazda 6 radio is one of the best (and a lot of cars have r****** radios!).

The Honda Civic is the only car which is better (aside from size).

My current car was a Nissan Primera (2003), but I think the Mazda is not as good as the Nissan, but the Mazda 6 is the only closest rival, to someone who wants a large hatchback car.

The Bad:

(1) Fuel economy - usually I am not fussy, but 30mpg was pretty low. Over time, this will only get worse.
(2) There is no where to keep a smartphone, so it is facing you (especially for sat-nav or navigation).

If the car, did not have the fault, I have been proud and very happy to own the Mazda 6. I have no idea, if I can find another good specimen.
