High quality and good value

I bought this car new in March 2014 to replace my ageing Volvo XC70. I had narrowed my choice down to Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 or BMW X3 and booked test drives for all of them.
The Volvo ruled itself out due to the indifference of the dealer who required us to take one of the junior salesmen with us and only do their test route which limited us to around 10 minutes with the car.
The BMW was good and the dealership was very helpful in allowing us to take the car by ourselves so we were able to choose the roads we wanted to try it on. The car was good and made it to our short list.
However, our experience with Audi dealer put the others to shame as the salesman took much more interest in our short list and suggested that, as we currently drove an XC70 and wanted to downsize, we should test drive an Allroad as well as the Q5. Not only that but we could take as much time as we liked provided we had the car back by close of business that day. We tried the Allroad first and when we returned it later that day the salesman suggested we take the Q5 and keep it overnight to get a good feel for it.
Result was that we felt we had been able to fully assess both the Allroad and the Q5 so were confident in making a decision and we chose the Allroad so full marks to the salesman for thinking our choices through.
Since taking delivery we have only covered 9000 miles but we are appreciating the car more each time we drive it. The quality of the fit and finish is better than the BMW and a Mercedes that we rented as a hire car this year. The controls feel like they will last a lifetime and feel good to the touch. The fuel consumption which was disappointing at first is now improving steadily and we are achieving around 41mpg overall with no motorway cruising so I reckon that's pretty good.
When I wash it the paint feels really deep and the leather interior shows no sign of "seating". The engine hasn't used any oil at all and the tyres are wearing well.
It isn't due for a service yet so I can't comment on the quality of Audi servicing (Volvo servicing was one of the reasons I chose not to have another Volvo) but I expect it to be efficient and I don't expect to find any "extraneous" charges such as £8 screenwash which I regularly experienced with Volvo.
All in all, I'm very happy with my decision to buy the A4 Allroad.
