Jaguar I-Pace named European Car of the Year 2019
Just days after picking up the gong for UK Car of the Year, the electric Jaguar i-Pace has been named the European Car of the Year.
Announced on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, the i-Pace and Alpine A110 received the same amount of votes from its panel of motoring journalist jurors - before a tie-break saw the Jaguar take the lead.
It's the first time in the award's 55-year history that there's been a tie - and the first time a Jaguar has won. Last year, the Volvo XC40 took the title.
Other shortlisted cars for 2019 included the Citroen C5 Aircross, Ford Focus, Kia Ceed, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and Peugeot 508.
The Jaguar I-Pace made headlines at its launch in 2018 with its impressive 298-mile range.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Jaguar's design boss, Ian Callum, said: "I don't understand why people make such a fuss over battery electric cars winning this award though; this is the future. It's a whole new Jaguar on a whole new platform and it's the most exciting car I've ever worked on."
