Ford reveals details of new C-MAX and Grand C-MAX

Ford has revealed prices for the new C-MAX and Grand C-MAX which both go on sale in the UK in October, with prices starting at £16,745 for the 1.6-litre petrol Zetec model. The Grand C-MAX costs another £2000 but buyers get sliding side doors and seven seats as standard for the extra money and Ford expects this to be the more popular choice.

The Grand C-MAX is actually the successor to the current Ford C-MAX and is designed to maximise practicality for families. Priced from £18,745 for the 1.6-litre petrol 125bhp Zetec, the Grand has the extra utility of twin sliding doors, versatile seating and improved engine efficiency - for a £250 premium over the current C-MAX model. The Grand Zetec with the 115bhp 1.6-litre TDCi engine is expected to be the volume seller in the UK and will cost £19,745 - £750 less than the outgoing equivalent.

Ford thinks the five-seat C-MAX will appeal to customers seeking more space than a regular family hatchback, but who do 'not want to sacrifice sporty design or driving dynamics'. On the road prices start from £16,745 for the 1.6-litre petrol Zetec.

There are just two trim levels - Zetec and Titanium and standard equipment on all models includes alloy wheels, air conditioning, a leather steering wheel, Thatcham category one alarm, DAB radio/CD and Bluetooth with USB connectivity and voice control. The Grand C-MAX has powered child-proof locks on the rear dual sliding doors and rear parking sensors.

The Titanium trim adds automatic windscreen wipers and headlamps, dual electronic automatic temperature control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, hill launch assist, keyless start, cruise control with speed limiter, a premium Sony audi, and tyre deflation detection system. The Grand C-MAX Titanium also has power folding mirrors.

There's a choice of three petrol engines and two diesel engines. Making its debut in the Ford C-MAX and Grand C-MAX is the all-new four-cylinder 1.6-litre 150bhp Ford EcoBoost engine which comes with a new six-speed manual gearbox. This gearbox is also fitted in the 1.6 TDCi and 2.0 TDCi models while driver's who prefer an automatic transmission, the dual-clutch Powershift six-speed automatic option is available with the 2.0 TDCi engine.
