Alfa 147 Selespeed 2 ltr - Alfa147 big end replacement - andyrob
Hi, I am a complete novice and would appreciate any advice?

I have had an intermittent oil leak for about 6 months, was told by garage that it was the sump box seal? I had this replaced but the problem continues? The same garage are now saying that they think the oil leak is from my big ends? They have put a dye in the oil tank and told me to take it back next Monday in order for them to be sure??

Can anyone tell me if this sounds right? I don't trust this garage anymore! They say that if it is the big ends the cost would be in excess of £800 !!

There is no noise from engine, just a very occasional ticking noise that goes once the engine has warmed up.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Andrea

They're probably telling the truth.

As I have said here before, when the Alfa 147 was around new, Alfas did a very good fleet deal in these parts and they became like fleas on a dog in the company car park.

This led to a complete ban on fleet purchases of Alfa vehicles, as perishingly few of them made it to the end of their lease period without blowing the bottom end.

They might be testing your lack of knowledge to see how much they can get away with.

Have you considered taking it elsewhere?

They are having a laugh. The big ends leak oil in all cars, its simply drips back into the sump.

Take it some where else, this garage is going to rip you off big time.If you accept such a total load of b******s they will know they have a customer with zero mechanical knowledge and bill you and bull5hit you accordingly.

Run fast.

More than likely a oil seal that has gone if its the one that is at the flywheel end then I think from memory its an engine job to replace. But lets hope the new guy is more honest than the previous garage who are talking complete cattle manure.
