Quick Yaris Problem - NormanB
Quick help required to save a trip to the dealer (Car is under warranty) Y Reg 1.3 CDX Yaris. Windscreen washer pump not running on demand - cannot positively identify fuse nor can I find a blown fuse (both fuse boxes). No other electrical equipment failing to operate and Oh - the rear wash is working OK.

Its been really warm today so icing not suspected. I have had bonnet open and listened for pump to kick in when SWMBO operated switch. No joy.

Grateful for any advice.

Can you hear a pump operating when the rear wiper is operated? It\'s too dark for me to confirm the Yaris works this way, but most if not all cars only have one pump which operates one way for front washers and reverse for rear.

No pool of water on the floor? On my Tipo, one arm had broken off the pump so water just spurted on the floor when operated.

If you have a multimeter you could always check the voltage to the pump, assuming you can get at it. I\'d be very surprised if it\'s a fuse as if it is one pump, it would stop it completely.

TBH it\'s probably a dealer job as it\'s likely to be electrical.

Hi Steve and thanks that was a quick response!!

Yes I can hear the pump when the rear wash is operated (I imagined the noise was coming from the rear - but I may have been fooled) I will pop out and check again.

No water on garage floor but you are right it will be in to the dealer tomorrow - I can see just accessing the pump is not a five minute job.

Thanks once again.

Well - that is really strange!!

Went out to check as indicated in above posts.

The front washer is now working - Great - except I do not know why.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Aside from cussed awkwardness, the only ideas that spring to mind initially are either a loose wire somewhere (probably in the switch if it works for the rear screen) or a bit of grit or something got jammed in the pump but is now free. Glad it\'s working though!

In my best Victor Meldrew - \"I do not believe it\"

The windscreen washer stopped working on the Yaris (same one)and I did a search on the forum as I couldn\'t remember how it got sorted last time - not sure if there is a problem with the dates in the original post but it appears to be a year to the day since I originated this thread - spooky if true and if so all I need to do is to wait a couple of hours and the problem will resolve itself;-)

It is great taling to yourself but...............

Really spooky the windsceen washer is working OK now!

Toyota seem to have developed a time switch that triggers annually and interrupts the power supply to the windscreen washer for a few hours every 12 months!!

Hi,

Is it possible that the fluid was simply frozen for a few hours and so wouldn't spray?

What do you use as wiper fluid? Proper stuff or fairy liquid?

Its a good theory but temps have been no where near freezing, the rear washer worked fine and when the windscreen motor was activated no running noise heard!

I use proper wash additive.

I will stick with the annual time switch theory until I can prove otherwise:-)
