Jaguar X-Type Estate - Agh what have I done?! - Redhound

I bought the Jag yesterday. Even though I am not really a Jag sort of girl, more the Polo type..I love her, she is gorgeous and drives beautifully, but I meant to buy something sensible like a VW Golf or Toyota Avensis! Anyone else on here got one and how are you finding it? I am hoping that the Ford engine and chassis might mean reasonable repair bills, though I am aware the tyres aren't cheap..MPG seems good.. please tell me I am not nuts. I have bought her for long distance house hunting/moving and room for 2 dogs in the back..

Friends of the family have one - 2.2d manual and its been utterly reliable and so has her husbands 3.0 S Type both bought used 1 or 2 years old low mileage 7 or 8 years ago at a main dealer. Husband used to choose Lexus (Lexii?) until he retired but rates his Jag as good or better. They tour all around Europe every year in the estate and haven't had any problems.

Tyres shouldn't be overly expensive as long as you buy them independently and shop around a bit. Check out mytyres or camskill for keen prices and have them fitted locally.

Phew thanks, mine is middle-aged and higher mileage, I toyed with getting a newer one but decided against as I haven't had much luck with people hitting and breaking into cars recently. She seems to run nicely plus I have a 6 month warranty. I don't mind the odd hit on bills so long as she is generally reliable. Thanks

I have owned 3 X-types in the past, great cars, best one was my 2.2d sport manual.

100% reliable, drove a dream, fantastic driving round Europe, excellent fuel economy.

Bit short of leg room in the rear, only reason I had to give them up as my Teenagers just got taller and taller.

I would have another.

That is really reassuring thank you! I have no teenagers, so will be quite happy so long as the dogs fit in the back :) Mine is the 2 litre diesel. Thanks again.

Wish I was that senseble!

I need to sell my two cars and get something like a Jag estate.

Good luck with it. You bought with the heart, but with Ford mechanicals the head shouldn't disapprove too much. It's a Mondeo underneath, but not everybody knows that, do they!

It's quite possible that there's a hermit in somewhere like Tibet who hasn't heard that, yes.

Haha I hadn't heard that 'till recently! Thanks for all the thoughts! I love her, so I am happy whatever; now I have got over the shock :)
