Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 2004 - Vauxhall Corsa wont start - z.bhatti175

I have a vauxhall corsa 2004 1.0L which after an hour i started and immediately noticed lack of power. it wouldnt go over 30mph, with the addition of noise and shuddering while moving off. i took it to see a mechanic who plugged his computer in and told me it was the MAF. i went home and took the MAF out (not unplugged) took the part out. i tried starting the car, it started and then 2-3 seconds later it stalled and since then has not started. the engine turns over but it just doesnt start. 3 different mechanics have come to my house and had a look at it but they have no clue. im worried i may have made things worse, please help. any ideas? can a MAF stop a car from starting? Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Have you answered your own question?

I'd bless it with a dose of petrol and carb cleaner before calling for a priest.

Surely that's normal for the 1 litre? It's 1 cylinder short of being a real engine. :p

Seriously, though, this sounds like the crankshalf position sensor is stuffed. Lumpy running followed by no start means the ECU can't tell the engine is turning.
