Why hasn't it been done. - Man without a plan

I know there is a thread on here about unique features in cars, but I thought perhaps there is scope for a "Why hasn't it been done?" thread too...

For me it is cameras and screens instead of wing mirrors? Surely BMW or Mercedes should have done this by now, lop off the wing mirrors to make the car look nice and sleek and instead mount tiny cameras in their place feeding back to small screens on each pillar.

IMHO would look nicer and would make cars slightly more aerodynamic so saving fuel.

I'm sure somehow this could also immeminate the blindspot?

Any thoughts on the above and why it hasn't been done, or anything else that you think should be on cars now that isn't?

nstead mount tiny cameras in their place feeding back to small screens on each pillar.

It is easier to get an immediate sense of spatial awareneess with physical mirrors rather than relaying camera images to a centrally located screen. A camera lens can be obscured by dirt and become useless. An electrical fault woud lead to the driver becoming blind. There's no technical difficulty in incorporating your suggested set-up.

Freewheel device. Yes, it is controversial-and it has been done before. The fact remains that it is the mechanically the most simple and elegant way of improving fuel economy without hampering performance. Try riding a 'fixie' pushbike and you'll quickly see how useful a freewheel is!
