I have just had occasion to replace a headlight bulb on my Corolla (2000, X reg.)

The owner's handbook merely states in what direction you have to rotate the bulb housing, neglecting to point out that unless you are a double-jointed three-year old,you are embarking on an hour's knuckle-skinning torment.

Why couldn't they have said 'Remove the two bolts locating the headlight and gently tip it forward, giving easy access to the bulb housings'?

Be thankful and research any replacement car carefully, some cars need the front bumper removing to gain access, others are through a little hatch via the inner wheelarch, in both cases a lot of fun in a wet service area on a cold night in your sunday best.

Toyota's on the whole and especially older models are made to be easy to work on.

Think yourself lucky - on my Daughters 55 plate Corsa you have to remove the bumper to change the headlight bulb!!!

The easiest headlight bulb-change of any car that I've owned was on a C reg. Peugeot 305 Estate,-

Open the bonnet, remove the radiator grille(2 plastic 'dzus' clips)-flip an over-centre clip to release the headlamp unit, unclip the bulb, replace with new one. I got it down to 34 seconds..
