First thing you did when you passed - jamie745

What was the first thing you did when you finally passed your test and got your licence? When i passed in 2002 i had a Fiesta 1.1 (one of those slower than hamster wheel Fiesta's) which i used to go out learning with my Dad and i passed on the tuesday, changed the insurance around by the wednesday and just went and filled it up and drove round for hours on end. No route, no clue where i was going, it didnt matter. I just drove until i got bored (and was considerably lost).

How about you?

Left the test centre and went on the M1 for about 20 miles for my first motorway experience.

I got on the M6 at Carnforth to frighten myself, and drove down to tackle Liverpool. In at the deep end...! I figured I'd best get it over with and very quickly motorways became my favourite sort of roads.

Our fastest roads are Bobbins favourite, what a surprise :P

Hilman Imp delivery vans? I only know those from photographs!

Bought a car ASAP - then travelled up and down the motorway with my elder brother and best friend (both of whom had years of experience) so they could see my competance.

I love the motorway now - not during rush hour though, obviously

1992, passed the test in our family car. Half way home my faher stepped out of the car and said he'd walk while I drove home, Finally, behind the wheel on my own for my first time. Drove home no problem. I was so excited waving to my mother while I parked the car. Until I realised I wasn't paying attentention and parked in the garden destroying her rose bushes instead of the driverway :-(

I used the driving school's new Fiesta (new model just launched - giving away my age now) to take the driving test - so the first thing I did was ride home as a passenger as the rule was 'all test candidates will be driven home, pass or fail'

Made up for it when I took granny home later that evening; well dad did have a reason for paying for my lessons !!!

Gosh, my wife had one of those when we first got married. She still recounts the tale of when she damned nearly killed herself trying to overtake a Co-op milk float. Nice, long gap in the oncoming traffic, but not long enough for a 1.1 Fiesta to accelerate past a milk float. She'd traded in a FIAT X1/9 on it and hadn't quite come to terms with the rather serious difference in performance.

Can't remember what I did when I passed. Probably went out on the lash that night to celebrate.....

I'm going back a few decades now, but I can remember making plans for booking two tests in the same week - for obvious reasons. I can't remember the details, but I ended up with a car test on one day, and a bike test a couple of days later. Passed each first time, in the same week, and went back to work as an apprentice mechanic after each test. I had a motorbike at the time, and my employer provided the car for the test.
