CT200h - Lexus - hillman

After reading the road test I popped into the Lexus showroom to have a look at the practicality for my circumstances.

The prices is right and the car is beautifully designed and made, and I'm sure will be more than satisfactory for a couple or a family with two chiildren (albeit wealthy). But, for my purposes it seemed that the car had been designed for luxury and not for access. The lady who showed me the car had to agree that Aunties over 70, wearing skirts as they tend to do, would find it difficult getting into the back seat, especially when they have glaucoma, as one of my occasional passengers has. The alternative is the 450 model, which is out of my price range.

Looking at one yesterday in a combined Lexus/Toyota dealer, the equivalent Auris hybrid at 25% lower price looked a better proposition

And if the Auris is too small for septuagenarian aunts, there's always the Prius, which has the same mechanicals and the Auris and the CT 200h, and also particularly good rear legroom.

I was curious when waiting for a tyre replacement. So walked to see the CT200h after the adverts...

Well the boot is very small for starters. There is a space where a spare might normally go but it is not big.

Depends on what you need. I'd get one over a Prius. And will get neither. VW BlueMotion Passat for me I think.

The septuagarian aunt is my younger sister actually.

The car does not have a spare tyre but a canister of foam. That generally means a a new and expensive tyre with every puncture. And, in my hard experience, punctures happen late on Xmas Eve, with everywhere within reach closed until the New Year.

If you have seen the latest Toyota ad it shows a Prius MPV which will probably be a better option for anyone with mobility problems. No idea when it is due to be in the UK though.
