Peugeot 207 HDI - Pug 207 1.6 HDI: clutch gone - Galad

Friend's Pug 207 clutch has just failed. It's a 2007 1.6HDI with just 25k on the clock supplied (used) by main dealer and although it's still within its warranty I'm sure that the dealer will say it's wear and tear and that hios (or the previous owner's) driving style is to blame. Dealer wants to charge him £100 just to inspect the damage but before he takes it in I was wondering if this model has a dual mass flywheel which could cost him £1,000+ to repair?

I also noticed through Google that there may be a known problem with Peugeot clutch assemblies?

If you cut and paste it, it should take to a page of articles, specficially about 207 clutchproblems. One of the threads specifically comments on a suspicion of a bad batch of clutches.

I googled for "Peugeot 207 clutch faults". Note the quote marks.

Hello, somebody else on this page with a clutch problem a two and a halve year golf. Are these clutch plates made of cardboard or are people riding the clutch? Clutches should last a lot longer the only clutch i have ever had replaced was on a 150000 miles vw beetle.Strange.

I have noticed several times recently that cars stopped at lights are obviously being held on the clutch as they rock backwards and forwards. I can't imagine that doing anything for the longevity of the clutches.

Is it the current practice amongst instructors to tell people to sit at lights with the car in gear and the clutch depressed?

You could be right Vitesse, any driving instructors here who could give us a answer?Riding the clutch in my opinion causes damage to the clutch plates. When stoppinf at lights for any giving time .Handbrake on gearstick in neutral, not leaving in gear with the clutch depressed.
