I bought a 05 Meriva in March this year, low miles 30 thousand, good condition etc.

I was 3/4 hour into my journey to Heathrow on Saturday when the car seemed to have died on me, I coasted off the road, temp looked ok, well it was on the lower scale of cool/cold.

Saw steam or smoke coming from under bonnet. Lifted it to check, think it was steam and it seemed to be quite hot. The radiator was empty! Having topped it up the night before.

Called breakdown recovery, he had a look and said, oh look, the hose at the back that runs from the radiator has popped off! I looked and saw the clip that holds it on, half way down the hose. It looked like it had never even been connected to the ( can't think of the name) when I looked at the hose it was was rusty where the clip had been, so i guess it had been like that quite some time.

After putting water in the rad' the car still didn't start, so I am wondering if by this hose popping off like it did has caused further damage? i.e. cam belt?

I shall be incontact with the garage today to see what has happened and why.
