Authorities mislay d/licence - sydney the oz

Got a fixed penalty notice in another part of the country, took the docs to the local police as requested, they sent them off and now the card part is lost somewhere.

The issuing constabulary say my local constabulary have got it wrong by sending it to the wrong address, the local constabulary say sorry but they they didn't lose it. Now at least I have got a record of both parts being posted by recorded delivery, but now the insurance has just come up for renewal, who are threatening to cancel my policy if i don't give them details of the conviction I told them about from my licence...which I don't have. Talk of me having to pay for a new licence!

Couldn't have access to a loan car the other week as I have no licence to show!

Anyone else had this happen and any suggestions?

You need to get the DVLA to reissue the licence as lost. They normally take two weeks.

The policy won't be void or cancelled in the interim if you write to your insurer telling them what happened.

If you can show they were responsible the police should compensate you for the renewal cost and the hassle and you could try writing a letter of complaint to the Chief Constable but given the amount involved that might be more hassle than it's all worth.
