Two cars - what one should have the NCB? - Diamond
I have a classic car which I use infrequently and an every day car, A Focus, both are insured fully comp, the classic car has my full no claims bonus on it and the Focus has zero, because only one car can have the NCB.

My classic car was my every day car until last year when I got the Focus, but kept the insurance going on the classic complete with NCB. Both cars are insured with the same company who gave a small discount for insuring both cars.

At the time a friend said I should transfer the NCB to the Focus.

Is there any point to this? If I were to have a claim on the Focus, would the NCB be reduced, even though it's on the classic? Or would the NCB not be affected, it all seems confusing can anyone help?!

Bottom line - should I transfer the NCB onto the Focus?

One other question - would the Focus start to earn its own NCB on the next renewal?

Youll earn ncb on both policies as time goes by. I had this recently when i aquired a golf mk1 gti, now have two policies running, i got a quote for each and worked out which was the cheapest way to do it.

Depends how old your focus is? Do you want to protect NCB?

The Focus at next year renewal will have 1 years NCB.

So would I be right in thinking that if I had a claim on the Focus insurance, my classic cars NCB would not be affected?

The NCB would not be affected but you would have to inform them of a claim, which minorly would affect the premium at renewal.

You should take out a specialist classic car policy on the classic car and transfer the NCD to your everyday car. Unless you are looking to accrue 2 separate NCDs over the next few years.

A classic policy will not attract a NCD but the starting premium may surprise you. I pay less than £100 pa on my convertable with a mileage limit of 3000 pa.

I pay £171 for the gti with a mileage limit of 3000pa and it will acrue ncb. Not bad for a (just ) 30 yr old.

Admiral applied my NCB to both cars of a multicar policy where I was sole named driver.
