Windows misting up - Rattle
My Corsa is actually pretty good for this and the rear screen heater clears in about 1 minute which is very impressive. However sometimes the windscreen still mysts up a little bit, mainly when I have cleared it, gone to a job, got back into the car and it mysts it is only slight but enough to be ilegal to drive until I clear it.

I leave the heating setting on dimist even when the ignition is off, I assume this makes the problem worse?

Have you changed the pollen filter (if fitted), sometimes they get overlooked on a service interval, and get clogged up.
Windows mysting up - Rattle
Its on my list anyway, keep meaning to it but I have no garage and its raining every flipping day :( I even have a spare filter ready to go in. I had no idea this caused mysting up.

Your heater matrix has gone, hence your windows mysteriously misting up. When all the water in your engine's cooling system's gone, it will seize up solid.
Windows mysting up - oilrag
You don`t need to do anything Rattle. It`s just moisture with all the rain - on your clothes and getting into the seat fabric, mats and so on. When the screen is clear, get the heater onto the car interior and foot-wells.
It then condenses on the coldest part of the car interior, which is sometimes the windows, if there are low temperatures outside.
If I`m ever getting into a car with a wet coat, I always take it off before getting in and fold it in on itself, before placing it in the car - rather getting the seats damp

Crack a window open when your driving too on dry days and let some air through.

Windows mysting up - Rattle
Yeah I always have the drivers window open an inch and have the blower on etc, its like driving in a fridge though for the first 1 mile or so, I think some driving gloves might solve that :).

Heater matrix is fine, not loosing any coolant at all, heater works perfectly and no signs of damp in the cabin or anything :).

I am wet all the time these days because it just never stops raining ever :(

oilrag,

Well put.

Surprising how just a few drops of rain on your 'ead can transform themselves to mist and leap onto the inside of the windscreen.

But then at least the screen will remain clear!
Windows misting up mystery - idle_chatterer
When my heater matrix went on my 1989 Nova SR it made a sound like a coffee peculator. It didn't steam up mind you.
Windows misting up mystery - Rattle
Mine is very quiet :) as I say if it was the matrix I think I would know about it :) Also if the matrix goes I think its time to pass it onto a an unspecting dealer .... :p or pray that radweld did the trick.

Maybe it`s your job, Rattle... You must get sick of Windows..

Yes, you are right. It is particularly bad if you have Mystic 8 Meg speeds, as that is too slow to demystify the mystery. As someone said, it is due to rainwater getting on his head. The patch is meant to keep hard disk heads dry, especially if you have leaky and rattling Windows in outdated Legacy hardware, not necessarily made by Subaru as it is known to affects coarser Corsas too.

Windows misting up mystery - FotheringtonThomas
Remember, when the engine seizes up, it could happen very suddenly, and at any speed (up to about 40MPH, of coursa). It could apply further braking effort through the transmission.
Windows misting up mystery - Rattle
And why would a little bit fo myst cause the engine to seize up? As I said I am not loosing any coolant.

Try keeping some decent sized bags of Silica Gel in the car, these are available on ebay for not a lot of money and are excellent for absorbing damp. Every couple of weeks dry them out in an oven on a very low temperature or on a radiator and they will be as good as new again.
Also keep the inside of the windows as clean as you possibly can, they will not mist up so quickly and will clear faster.

Rattle some are pulling your leg for spelling mist with a y, i.e. mysting.

I had an Astra (96 model) that was terrible for misting up in the cold. And it has got a lot colder. It was very bad once on the M62 from Leeds to Manchester.

Only solution to still see was to put the heater on high temperature.

For the last 10 years I've had climate control so that problem has gone away. Mondeo had the ideal solution with a heated windscreen (miss that).

But it is dampness in the car (perhaps on your clothes) to blame. And the cold windows are obviously one place where they will go.

What makes it worse is the layer of grime that builds up on the screen over time. If you give it a good clean inside it can help a lot. But make sure you do it well or you may find vision impeded in sunlight.
Windows misting up mystery - whoopwhoop
Defynately sounds lyke the heater matrix is fractured.

Remember you won't necessaryly notice the coolant level dropping as the amount of fluid is relatively small.... but one day sooner or later it will cause your engine to seize.

Don't drive it - get it booked it in asap.
Windows misting up mystery - Rattle
But its no worse than any other car? My dads is far worse in the morning that mine and his gets used a lot more. I assume this heater matrix thing is a little bit of a wind up? If I go to a garage and say my windows go a little bit misty they will thing I am asking them if I can borrow their chocolate hammer!

There isn't any signs of damp or wet any where in the cabin. Also surely if it was the matrix the leak would get worse and my engine my cabin would start to smell of coolant? I would also notice something is not quite right with the engine temperature before any any damage was done hopefully.

Thanks Rob, my car dosn't sound that bad, it is just enough to be annoying having to spend two minutes cleaning the windscreen when its very cold. Will give the inside a good clean, I have given the outside windscreen a good clean and that has made a big dffierence at night.

'Hopefully', Rattle. Ay, there's the rub. Better safe than sorry my dear fellow. Book into the main dealer and damn the expense. Give them carte blanche to do anything they consider necessary. They respect a punter who trusts them. Ask Number_Cruncher.

You can't be too careful.

and in case you didn't notice that one

Rattle it might just be autumn leaves blocking up your drainage holes around the wipers. you should be able to poke them out, perhaps a neighbour will lend you a stick with one end.
Windows misting up mystery - WellKnownSid

...and all the windows in your house will be nicely misted up... ;)
Windows misting up mystery - Alby Back
It's normal Rattle. Don't worry about it. I take it your car doesn't have AC ? If it did it would clear the screen much more quickly if left switched on.
Windows misting up mystery - Stuartli
If you keep the inside of your windscreen as spotlessly clean as possible (a film of various pollutants builds up via the air inlets), you'll find that any condensation will clear much more rapidly as there is little or nothing for it to "stick" to on the glass.

Worth checking too that the upholstery and carpets are not damp or wet as this will not help the situation.
Windows misting up mystery - Rattle
Just been to the local shop and noticed all the cars as I went there, all misted up some a lot worse than mine and newer so not worried about it being a problem, it is just annoying so anything I can do to reduce it I will do :).

I need to remove the drainage cover to get to the pollen filter anyway so I can clean out all the crap when I do that. My dads Fiesta is now so steamed up you can't even see inside of it. Mine is just a very thin layer.

Rattle, now you know I wouldn't wind you up!

Just to put your mind at rest about the heater matrix go and put your hand up the back of the dashboard, as far as you can on the passenger side, nearest to the drivers side and feel the carpet. If that doesn't feel damp ast all, and there isn't a faint whiff of antifreeze in the car then it isn't the heater matrix.

When you've done that, change your pollen filter and stop worrying and don't let this lot wind you up:)

Why do you bring out the Aunty Pat instinct in me?:)

Rattle - have a read of this link which shows you (with good photos) how to replace a Corsa B pollen filter and clean out the scuttle gunk in one go. Make sure you scroll past the gearbox removal part.

SWMBO's Focus (58 reg) seems to be having a problem with misting up this winter, despite its not being particularly cold. I tried putting in a small (25g) bag of dessicant from electronic goods packaging last evening and it seemed to do the trick (I had already cleared out the leaves from the venting below the windscreen, which can't have helped).

I will continue with a rigorous programme of testing, and have bought a larger version of the dessicant bag from a trader on eBay. If it works or not, I'll post again.

Not quite as good as Victor's link, but you don't have to scroll through the photos to find the pollen filter info:-

I must say the car in Victorbox's link seems in truly superb condition too.

Eat your heart out Rattolo. You should be so lucky.
Windows misting up - oilrag
Dig the pollen filter out and bin it Rattle. What`s `motoring` without a bit of leaf or the odd wasp coming in through the vents? ;-)
