And a typo in my first post, I should have said "I followed procedures and sent if off" although next time I will make sure the I is almost patronising clear!

The chances are that the insurance details have got your name right and has just ticked the "is registered owner" box without their being a check made (it's up to you to inform the insurance company that you are who you state you are and that you're the registered owner).
I assume that your insurance document is in your correct name?

Yep insurance is all in my name, I just know from past experience that my insurance company has a policy that the policy holder most also be the same person on the V5. When I had my first car (Rattle) my dads car was SORN and he needed to using it so rather than me pay a fortune for insurance I stopped using it and my dad took out his own policy for it, the insurance comapny insisted that the name on the V5 would have to change. The result was a 12 year old car with 11 previous owners!

What a pain having Surname as your surname - bet it causes loads of trouble.
We had a lad when I was in the Navy whose surname was Shipman, and his rank was Midshipman, often abbreviated to Mid. An officer would shout Mid Shipman, come here, and get knocked down by twenty guys doubling over and saluting.

what fool didnt check the details on the v5 at point of sale and then sign and date the bottom to say details were correct

The details were correct, it was clearly an I when I filled it in, my signature clearly also reads Ian. It shows lack of common sense at Swansea as there is not many Andrews called Jan! Although Jan can be a male name it is very rare.

Although Jan can be a male name it is very rare.
Round here in The Fens, it has become quite common-place :-)

Very common male name in (mainly North and Eastern) Europe, but tends to be pronounced Yan.

It's just a version of John. Jan, Johan, Yann, Iain, Ieuan, the list is endless.
I'm a Steven, Istvan, Stepan, Stefan, Etienne, Esteban...................

'I doubt it, sir. His other name is Gengulphus.'
'Good Lord, Jeeves! There's some pretty raw work done at the font, don't you think?' (or words to that effect).
