Can anyone help? I have just bought a Mercedes A-Class, and in the firdt week have managed to take thumbnail-sized chunks out of both front alloy wheels... no idea how. Anyway, does anyone have a top tip for filling/painting/repairing them? I had a look round Halfords but couldn't find any suitable products.
Ta very much.

Far be it from me to cast aspersions on your driving skills, but have you, perchance, run your wheels up against a kerb ??
If so, don't do it !!

Escargot, thanks for the advice! "No" is the answer, and both chips are right in the centre of the wheel by the merc badge, and in asymetrical places - not in a "O" shape which would be the case had I dragged 'em along the kerb. I am baffled as to the source of the chips, but am nore interested in a solution now that it has happened!
Cheers

I can only assume that you've hit some road debris to cause this damage, if it's not curbing.
I've touched in small marks in alloys, where the coating has been removed, with silver Hammerite. Did a remarkably good job and being quite viscous gave the thick coat that was needed to recover the contour, and was an excellent colour match.
Haven't tried one, but Halford's Car Parts Guide does list an 'Alloy Wheel Repair kit' on page 58.

At my old house the driveway had brick pillars which on both sides facing the driveway were cast hinge brackets for the original gates. Gates were taken during war for making tanks (or Spitfires) but hinge brackets were still in situ in 2001
Friend arrived with sparkly new Mazda Xedos and took chunk out of wheel centre with no difficulty at all. Never came to visit me again. Wonder why?

Gates were taken during war....
I know what you're talking about, but I bet some clever clogs says "What war might that be then..."

eric's son,
If you look on www.halfords.com under car care you can buy an Alloy wheel repair Kit for £24.99.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I think that I will go for the silver Hammerite option, as I have looked at the details of the Halfords kit and it involves "...painting the other alloys to match the repaired one", which scares me a little, to be frank.
Happy kerbing everyone!

I think that I will go for the silver Hammerite option,
Without trying to sound patronising, make sure it's the smooth finish, not the hammered finish stuff!!

cheers... when you're as much a maintenance novice as I am (despite owning 8 cars & 5 motorbikes over 14 years) NOTHING is patronising
