Toyota Auris or Nissan Note? - Trogan
Hi,

Hope I'm in the right forum for this!

Does anyone have any opinions or experience with either the Toyota Auris (TR grade) or Nissan Note (Tekna grade)? Which car would you recommend if you had to make a choice? Are there better cars in the same bracket as these?

Right now I'm leaning towards the Nissan, but I've read a few user replies at whatcar.com and some people are not happy the experiences they have had.

All replies would be appreciated, thanks.

I've only driven a Toyota Aygo and a Nissan Micra - if they're anything to go by I'd take the Toyota anyday.

i sold my Nissan note after 11 months. the interior plastics and general trim is not up to Toyota standard.

they drive ok with the 1.6 petrol or 1.5 diesel but 1.4 is terribly slow.

Horses for courses - the Note is a mini-MPV whereas the Toyota is a more 'regular' hatchback. Think also about a Skoda Fabia (or Roomster if you want a mini-MPV) or Honda Jazz or Mazda 2 - test drive and see which you prefer.

Yeah. I'm a bit of a Nissan fan. I like the Note and the Tekna option's rather smart. I'd agree you need a 1.6 to haul it along. For me the lack of a sun-roof option is a problem. I don't like the interior finish on the Toyota or the Skoda and think the Jazz rides too hard. Mazda I don't know.

As the man says, test drive.

I bought a used 1.4 Note 6 months ago, not a single problem so far. It replaced a 1.6 Focus which I didn't get on with. I don't agree about the trim, there are no rattles or squeaks and its much quieter than our Octavia up to about 60 mph.
Fuel consumption is currently 47.5 mpg measured brim to brim, (computer reading 51.9mpg). Performance is fine at normal speeds up to about 70mph. Thereafter it becomes noisy, although no more than any other small car. Everything works and performs as it should and I'm very pleased on the whole. The sliding rear seat gives excellent load space but is really only feasible if there's nobody in the back (or small kids!). With the seat forward, there's more load space than the Focus 2 I had. I am actually wondering if, with a roof box, it would be capable of being our main family car, it's so good.
Haven't tried the Auris but I being a class size up, expect it's a bit quieter on the motorway.
Cheers
