Hull to Rotterdam car price - helmet
Off to the Nurburgring next month, for a bit of a play in my neighbours Nissan 200sx track car,and as we live only 60 miles from Hull,we have decided to utilise that route,to get to Germany.

Obviously,P&O are the carrier to Rotterdam, and the best price I've come up with so far for a car and 2 people,is £228 return, which isn't bad,but like everyone else,I like to hunt a bargain,I'm sure there's a better bargain to be had.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a better price?

I think that's pretty close to the bone. I've just paid closer to 300 for 4 people and an outside cabin.

Thats not a bad price, I have just booked Newcastle to Amsterdam return with a car and inside cabin for 2 people for £400.

Have you considered Harwich to Hook on Stena Line? You can use Tesco Clubcard vouchers and get £4 worth of travel for £1 worth of vouchers. You can include meals etc on this. The price saving over the extra fuel leaves only the extra travelling time against it, but Harwich isn't difficult to get to.

Its the cabin price that bumps the total cost up. For example one person/one cabin is almost as expensive as four people/one cabin. As for getting a special deal that is cheaper I wouldn't bank on it.

I have just come back from the Nurburgring and originally we were looking at going from Hull to Rotterdam (from South Derbyshire), but in the end we opted to sail from Dover to Calais. It is about an extra 200 miles going via Dover, but easily do-able in a day. Note that we were on bikes as well. One of the other problems of going via Hull/Rotterdam is that both sailings are overnight crossings, so you have to factor this into your trip as it can easily turn out to be a much longer 'weekend' that ever intended.

Thanks for that Simon.

Where did you stop when you got there?

My brother-in-law is going the day after us,so we'll probably meet up,and he is stopping at the Zurburg hotel. He says he's stopped there before, and while it's not the Ritz,it's all you need to park your head at the end of the day.

I always do Dover Calais to Germany France and so on.

The other week, it cost us £44 with Sea France.

We stopped in an excellent hotel/b&b in Bad Munstereifel which is about 26 miles away from the main Ring entrance. We had no need to stop right on top of the Ring itself and all of the roads in the Eifel region of Germany are brilliant, especially for bikes. The town of Bad Munstereifel itself is lovely, with some nice places to eat and drink and the hotel was about a 7 or 8 minute walk from the heart of the town. For the three of us it cost us 35 euros each per night and that includes breakfast, which was pretty cheap in comparison to others. The hotel is called Waldhotel Brezing and can be booked online via 'www.booking.com'. The owner does speak English and they do cater to your needs, ie they have apartment rooms as well as your standard single or double etc. I can't praise the place highly enough.

I'd point the car towards Dover and keep the rest for " liquid expenses". Always deals to be done for the channel crossings.

Tesco vouchers can be cashed for Eurotunnel, I found this out after I booked my motorbike crossing - oh well.

As a regular "chunneler" .....a "wee" tip. Do be sure to complete any um..."ablutions" prior to boarding. It can be a very long walk to a less than pleasant and usually rather oversubscribed facility.

I would be holding onto it Shoespy in case there`s any smoke.... ;)

Would much rather be watching the white cliffs and wondering how our BEF felt about them in the evacuation from Dunkirk.

`scared` of the tunnel, but maybe its just the extra few quid ;)

Don't start me off; actually booked into a Motel just south of Dunkirk for our first night....

VG Oily ! ;-)

I mix and match. If working and just want to get on with it, I use the tunnel. If on holiday, I prefer to use a ship. There is something still rather more eventful about leaving or returning by sea. Either method though, is infinitely preferable to the indignity of modern air travel in my humble. ( Glad you enjoyed your recent sojourn BTW )

Two blokes can easily do Yorkshire/North Lincs. to the Eifel region in ten hours without driving like loons via the Tunnel. If you are prepared to travel in the middle of the night I have booked return crossings for less than £45.
However, the ferry is far more civilised, Friday night on the ferry by 7pm, dinner, a few beers, breakfast and off in Rotterdam 8:30, be in the area of the circuit by lunchtime Saturday nice and relaxed. Leave the area mid-afternoon Sunday and be back at Rotterdam in time for the return sailing. Back in Hull 8am Monday morning.
£228 is pretty cheap. I am looking at doing the opposite journey with four in the car (two children under 3) and I am looking at over £500. OK, with all meals and a room with TV and mini-bar/fridge on the ferry.

£73.00 at reasonable times (return of course !)

I prefer to hold it in and dump it in France

Abulating in synchronization is one of the key to long distance motorcycling. The advantage is you can take on a considerable amount of fluid but it escapes through sweating etc without the need to actually visit a toilet.

We have done Hull to Rotterdam - the downside for me is the longer crossing and the fact that the North Sea can get pretty rough, though the weather's not bad at the moment. At least Dover-Calais there is less time to be sea-sick.

I've done the Hull-Rotterdam crossing several times and highly recommend it. Very civilised and relaxed. If you live within striking distance of Hull it's the way to go. Even in bad weather, the ferries are relatively stable. No dreadful drive to Dover either.

Having done the trip before, albeit as a foot passenger,I know which vessels they use,but it's slightly different this time, now having a car to take.

I wonder if it's worth the risk of ringing P&O on the day,and see if there's a 'last minute' price available.

I wouldn't even bother to contemplate it. What if they are fully booked, you will have no easy way of getting there then. And even if they do have space for you, you could be forced to have a really expensive cabin if all of the cheap ones have gone. Your 'cheap crossing' could turn into a rather more expensive one. Me I'd rather just book it properly and be safe in the knowledge that you are all sorted.

Time to confess - had a couple of very nice glasses of white with my tea yesterday and initially misread this post's subject line as "Hull to Rotherham" :-)

That would be out of the frying pan and into the fire :-)
