One of the good things about this forum was reading some of the excellent posts by a poster called 'Aprilia' (mentioned in another thread this morning). Not seen any posts from him for a long time. What happened, was he banned?
He posted very informative technical information on many occasions and some stuff on my Subaru that enabled to 'outwit' the dealer and probably saved me some money!

I'd also noticed his absence and regretted it.

got the impression he quite often travels abroad doing consultancy work - maybe he's on an extended trip. Certainly a rich mine of so much excellent information and to-the-point advice!

No doubt about it... Especially when it comes to autoboxes.

BTW: Anyone knows the manufacturer of new Chrysler Voyager's autobox matched to the 2.8 CRD engine ? I'm about to write a test of that vehicle, been driving it for 4 days. The car is OK, full of electric gizmos, but the horrible, loud engine and slow (albeit 6-speed) box just ruins it. Sometimes it acts like an old, 4-speed auto.

They really should re-think the whole thing and replace it with excellent Merc's 3.0 CRD, silky smooth V6 engine. You can find one in both Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander, so why not in Chryslers ? Theirs 2.8 CRD is just awful (I guess made by Italians, the VM motori)...

I agree with a lot of what has been said very knowledgelable BUT he is given on occasion to spouting carp! Ive caught him out
He was way off with mark with oppinions on the boss or Porsche & the cayanne for example, as id just read an in depth artical on both
He said Cayanne was poor seller WRONG! Then went on to say boss (cant remember his name) job was on the line WRONG! he is infact a hero n saviour of prosche
But there again comments like this are the exception rather than the rule

I thought that the Cayenne had been a disappointment to Porsche? I remember a Money Programme on BBC2 (maybe about a year ago??) where they had fields full of them in the US and dealers were slashing prices. Apparently it sold well at first but then flagged?? Depends on what timeframe you are looking at I suppose.

Proving them wrong, Porsche Cars North America is celebrating the launch of the next-generation 2008 Cayenne SUV, a more powerful new version of Porsche's sport utility vehicle hitting U.S. dealer lots Saturday, March 3. The Cayenne has been arguably the most controversial car launch in Porsche history, especially with its many sports car purists who thought a SUV could dilute the essence of the legendary German sports car maker. However, after more than four years of remarkable sales success, the Cayenne has established itself as a successful cornerstone of Porsche's traditional brand essence.

"We've never had a car as passionately debated by our pure sports car lovers as the Cayenne," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Porsche Cars North America president and CEO. "But when skeptics saw that we had infused the traditional, high levels of sports performance of a Porsche into an SUV, it became passionately loved. We expect this success story to continue with the market introduction of the second generation."

Since its original launch in 2002, Porsche has produced more than 150,000 first-generation Cayennes at is factory in Leipzig, Germany. In North America alone, more than 60,000 have been sold, boosting Porsche to three consecutive record-breaking sales years in the U.S.

"There is no doubt, the Cayenne has helped drive Porsche's sales growth in the U.S. and expanded our brand appeal to wider audience among all our models," said Schwarzenbauer

I agree with mm that Aprilia isn't always right, but then no one is if you look closely enough. He certainly knows plenty.

But I miss AE's entertaining insolence and bb's wicked-old-dealer wisdom and poetic way with words. Come to think of it mm hasn't had much to say lately either.

Hope the nice-sounding LPG Range Rover went to an appreciative home mm. Out of my class of course but I quite fancied it in a way.

Not seen Cheddar lately. Wonder if he got that X-type?

People do come and go (and come back again) on the forum. I took a year off or so off a while back. I just changed my routine and I was becoming bored by the same old chestnuts coming back time and time again. (I should think that the repetition must drive the mods mad at times.....).

A little time away and all seemed fresh again.

I understand that Aprilias have a reputation for high performance but dubious reliability. Perhaps he's gone in for repair.

Maybe we need to have that virtual BR party so that everyone can catch up with each other!

I enjoyed Aprilia`s posts. Personally I find badge `pomposity` and unremitting self righteousness ( as though personality were now twinned with the badge ) to be the biggest turn off `on forums.` Maybe its spring where he is and he`s taken up gardening instead. Now, there`s a thought.....
