so 7 dead....I'm deliberately not going to say what i'm really thinking out of respect for those that have died, (inc the person who's caused it)....and....the two parents sat in different hospitals hoping to hell that their kids make it
however,
what's the betting there'll be a speed camera there after this and/or road lane changes/double white lines etc.......when in all likelihood the real reason is poor driving from a person with a history of poor driving, who in my opinion was dealt with particularly leniently on the last occasion, if the news headlines are to be believed. Furthermore there are plenty like it driving around with impunity, you see them every day.
(Mods...hopefully this post has remained respectable and i'm conscious there won't be a court case as there's no one left to prosecute. If not considered appropriate there won't be any histrionics if you delete it).

I know exactly what you are saying WP, especially between the lines.
It has also been reported in today's papers that a crash on the A77 last year which killed a van passenger, was caused by the driver of the van who was banned and had no insurance.

Regardless of road, driver, road markings etc.... overtaking on a similar A road and crashing head on into an oncoming car is beyond belief. If it was a straight bit of road then the Passat was visible and the overtake not possible. If it was not straight then it was not possible anyway.
If this was a teenager showing off it would be a tragedy. The fact it was a 35 year old driver (lets ignore the conviction as that was a 5 year ban which would have been up) should have known better.
Sadly this will not be the last of these types of accidents :-( What makes even more mad/sad is a good friend of ours has had bad news which we found out today - his cancer is terminal. He is 46. He is such a brilliant and nice person and a tragedy but nothing he or anyone can do - he's had radical treatment that failed. Here is a driver than has so far taken 7 lives for no reason.
Sorry for the last bit as a rant.... but we see the "bad people" normally live on and the nice/good guys die.

I meant to add my thoughts are with the family of the two children in the Bristol Hospitals. They must be at the best places from them because the closest hospitals to the accident were not in Bristol....
Lets hope they survive without minimal injuries.
But I would not be surprised if the 306 driver had no insurance - how much would it be after being banned. But why would anyone get in with him!!?!?!?

Given that no one actually knows what happened yet I think that it is a little early to pass comment and judgement.

"Given that no one actually knows what happened yet I think that it is a little early to pass comment and judgement"
The public facts seem that the driver of a 306 overtook a Kia and crashed head on into a Passat. 306 was on the wrong side of the road and the Passat driving on their side. Passat driver was not at fault I think.
Not saying the 306 driver broke any law but took a risk too many at the very least. Along with 7 lives so far including their own.
To suggest the Passat driver on their side of the road regardless of speed was to blame would, it would appear, to be wrong.
|
Clearly this is an emotive subject - but where did I suggest who was at fault?

I understand they are in Frenchay Hospital.
Frenchay specialises in head and brain injuries and is world class as far as I understand.

This has happened just a few miles down the road from us. I had to go down that way today and assuming the site of the accident is where the pile of flowers is, it's a very ordinary bit of road.

Yes, the seriously criminal drivers who create the bad stats get away with murder, and we all get given the collective punishment of humps, chicances, scameras, lines, signs, low speed limits.
All too often, people complain that cars speed past their house at night at 70mph or whatever, so they put humps in. How is that going to help stop the thieving yobs who are doing the speeding in other people's cars?

He didn't get away with it in this case.

I know this area and road very well and frequently get stuck behind HGV's, tractors and the like and often see lunatic drivers performing very dodgy overtaking manoevres and just luck means there is nothing coming round the next bend or up from the hidden dip of which there are many on this road.
Throw into this equation a driver with a history of stupidity and total lack of regard for anyone else (including his own passengers).
The occupants of the vehicle that he hit could have been any one of us and our families on a routine journey home.
What a tragic waste of innocent lives

>>What a tragic waste of innocent lives<<
Quite so.
Sorry to be blunt but hovering on the edge of this set of events, semi-speculating about what might, or might not have happened serves no purpose and seems to me to be the equivalent of rubber-necking.
I hope this thread gets locked, or better still, deleted.

I agree Nsar. Okay, the facts look ominous. But.
What about innocent until proved guilty?
What if the Peugeot had a blowout causing the swerve into oncoming traffic?
What of 100 other things?
If the driver tests drunk in the post mortem then I'll be the first to condemn. Until then I agree that this thread should be locked or deleted.

Not sure at all that we should be discussing this one!!!!!
|
|
Not discussing it isn't going to make an iota of difference to anyone involved. If people are guilty of a crime, sure they will be suspected of doing it again if there is circumstantial evidence. Stop sticking up for drink-drivers already.

General consensus is to lock this thread, so done. DD.
