What's the best used small automatic car for under £9000?

In the past I have followed your advice and bought a Toyota Yaris, followed by a Hyundai i10. Both had trouble free automatic transmission. My lovely Hyundai i10 was recently written off following being hit in the rear by a truck while I was stationary in traffic. The third party admitted liability and I have today accepted his insurance company's settlement offer. I have £9000 to spend - what do you suggest?

Sorry to hear about your i10 being written off!

If reliability is high on your agenda, you'll struggle to do better with another Yaris, but this time, a third-generation version will be within your budget. It's worth going for the 2014-on facelifted model. There was another update in 2017, but this might be a stretch on £9000.
