Ok, so I bought a 207 a couple of months ago. It's a 16v 1.4.......I'm beginning to wish I'd gone for a German car. The build doesn't feel solid and the general drive is sluggish. Do you out there feel the same?
|
So did you not look it over and test drive it before you bought it?
A relative of mine has got the same engined 207 and didn't notice any difference from her 1.6 Focus she traded in for it (both 90 bhp).

I guess it's due to the fact that I was driving a Golf 1.9 TDI prior to this purchase. Can't say it compares to the Peugeot 207!

The clue is in the phrase "1.4"

Bake bean can. Its french so what do you expect!. 1.4 that say's it all! you could give it 32 valves if the head was big enough but it wont pull any better it will just rev. Try winding your 1.4 up more or buy a german car.

Ownership eperiences over one year:
German VW Passat: Creaks, rattles, trim falling off. Numerous electrical problems, lights failing, unhelpful and snotty dealers.
French Peugeot 407 Coupe. Err...nothing has gone wrong whatsoever. Dealer was great when I got the car, haven't needed to go back since. No creaks or rattles.

True - but has anyone tried one of these 1.4 TSI petrol engines in the Golf? Apparently they develop 170 bhp - sounds like something you have to drive at high revs to get the best out of it, but I haven't driven one so that may not be true.
|
The torque curve is very flat, smooth and doesnt fade away till at least 4k - graphs available on www.rri.se for different TSI outputs.
It uses common rail fuel delivery - though at far lower pressures than that of a diesel - as did the FSI 1.6 that had many , many issues. Not sure of the pressure difference between the TSI and the FSI.
With a supercharger and turbo charger combination, one does wonder how vulnerable this makes you to failures? Nevermind potential out of warranty repair costs. Its potentially as complex as a modern diesel!
|
Not over impressive to drive & lots to go wrong & fuel consumption a penalty if you start to use its potential, diesel would be better option

Sorry that was with reference to the VW super charged turbo charged 170 BHP 1.4

I once knew someone who bought a 205 Junior which, I think, had something like a 1.1 litre engine. He complained that it was gutless and didn't compare at all favourably with the Fiesta XR2 he replaced it with. Can't trust the French to produce a decent car, obviously. The mind boggles!

Just collected mine yesterday (207SW Outdoor). Despite a dash lamp showing after I had locked it up, which I didn't expect, the overall driving experience was great. (1.6 120bhp petrol). SHMBO almost fell asleep in it the ride was so comfortable and the seats are nice and supportive. Previous transport was a pick-up, so many things will be better for ride, ambient noise, cabin trim, however, as someone who needed a little more space than was available in a hatch, I am very pleased. Build quality seems pretty ok as well, considering at this end of the price scale, it could be looked on as a mass market consumable.

The lamp should go out after a few seconds.
it caught me out when i first bought the car.

The lamp should go out after a few seconds.
I hope, two and a half years on, they've found that out by now
