After a lot of "um-ing and ah-ing" SWMBO finally decided on a New Corsa 1.4 Design in Silver with 5 doors at the end of March. I collected it today so we are finally a two car family.
Price at dealers was within £15 of internet price so I was happy, with GM card points and no part-ex total price was a chunk under £10k so I was happy too, well as happy as you can be ... price included a full tank of petrol and car mats as well. Nice flowers for the wife too.
So look at car - salesman says - the valet is a bit of a mess - and we also mucked up the tax disc - taxed to 03/08 not 04/08. Here's a voucher for a free 20,000 mile/12 month service, and if you pop it back first thing next Saturday morning we will re-valet it for you. I just smiled and said thank you.
Insured for under a grand with Frizzell as well - two inexperienced drivers - both less than three months from passing test - one a 17 year old girl - no no-claims bonus - and business use for me too. So that was good as well.
Collected it today and have to say it looks very good.
I also really enjoyed driving it home, and taking it out this evening. Clearly needs to be run in and get some more flexibility - but very precise and light to drive and no squeaks or rattles yet! Feels very well put together.
So what do SWMBO and eldest daughter get really excited about - the car now has an AUX socket so they can play their MP3 players over the stereo system!!
I need to get a life!

I really like the new Corsa and wish I could've stretched to one. I certainly think one will be on the list when the Getz is due for replacement. At least your dealer owned up to the mistakes and offered some compensation. How many people would have noticed the tax disc? Having a good dealer certainly makes a difference.

Enjoy it and have fun.

I like it as well save for the overly/severely raked windscreen and that Vauxhall centre console layout which is a mess (or nearly so). Only other fault seems to be the narrow access to the boot when hatchback lid is raised.
However I still like it although would be hard pressed to decide between it and a new Renault Clio.

Colleague at work has had one for a couple of months now. Overall she's impressed with it - apart from the loud squeal from one of the front brakes whenever they're applied. It's already been back twice to be looked at and on the 2nd visit new pads were fitted. It's still doing it over a 1000 miles later and the next thing the garage are going to try is to fit some pads from a Fiat! Rumour has it another Corsa had similar problems at another Vauxhall garage and some bright spark decided to try different brake linings which solved the problem. Trouble is they can't remember which model Fiat shares the same brake pads as the new Corsa, so they are having to order a whole range in and eliminate through trial and error.

>>Trouble is they can't remember which model Fiat shares...
The Grande Punto has the same floor pan, etc, as the Corsa D.
See HJ's CBC guide for that version Corsa.

The Grande Punto has had squealing and "groaning" brakes too and I understand there were modified pads fitted.
Its the same car though isn`t it only wearing a different frock?

Many thanks Another John H & oilrag. I'll pass this info on. It *might* speed up the solution to her brake problem.

Having cocked the valet and the tax disc, I would not call them a good dealer. More like most of them,
useless, incompetent, couldn't care less.

I can only think of two type sof retail operations that call themselves "dealers" the other sells drugs !

At least the salesman was honest and volunteered the information rather than "hxj" having to point it out and argue about it.

The problem with the valet was not the inside or the outside, but the door frames etc - they just didn't do them - you only notice it with the doors or boot open.
Problem garage had was that the valet guy left at noon on Saturday and I collected the car at 2pm.
The tax disc problem was simply an admin problem.
Both problems were pointed out to me before I really had chance to see the car - with apologies - and the free service was offered before I said anything.
I know knocking is common but in my view that is a good dealer not a bad one.

I'm absolutely staggered by the quality of a mate's Astra 1.9 diesel SRi (150bhp)
The suspension is great, it feels very tight and poised yet very comfy, and goes like a bat out of hell with a propellor up it's backside - Hill, what hill? Interior feels well put together as well.
And it's 'Only a Vauxhall'

maybe a slight chamfer of the pads will cure the birdy noises
