Just wanted to say what i pleasent suprise i had today when an AA patrol stopped by my house to see if the problem i had with my Saab had been resolved, It kept blowing bulbs and he had been out 3 times to it, then he spent an hour on to technical people to find out what it could be and found a list of things for me to go to the dealer with, then as i say popped by today to see if anything was sorted!
I think if everyone had that dedication to thier job the the world would be a better place!! Well maybe not but though he deserved a mention!!

Make sure you 'report' him (So to speak)
More use telling AA than us! :o)

Hi there, mss1tw. Tell the A.A. and they wont even log it in my opinion. P.S. Did you ever find the water leak ? Cheers, Graham.

Hi there, i would say this is a one off !!! Unless every-one out there knows different. i myself over the years have had very bad experiences involving the A.A. I would not use them again ever, not even to change a tyre. join the R.A.C. Cheers, Graham.

I've been with the AA for yonks and I can see no reason why their employees should be any less competent than those of the RAC.

I've been privileged to spend a day observing the training (updated on a regular basis) provided for AA patrols staff.
It's very intensive.

In the interests of impartiality, I would like to thank the RAC man who came to our rescue on Saturday evening.
I accidentally closed the door on our VW T5 camper with the keys inside, and the doors locked, leaving me, wife and 2 kids outside, and 3-year old son inside. The RAC man arrived saying he hed been on a course on VWs just last week, and that if the van was an 07 model year we would be in trouble because it automatically deadlocks.
No prizes for guessing ... its an 07 model.
After discussion as to which window would have to be broken to climb in and retrieve the keys, and with a distraught 3-year old spicing up the mix, they decided to try another tack. {details of which now deleted - DD} .
And apologies to the others on the campsite in West Wittering for the noise of the alarm going off ... and off ... and off.

Boxster, not probably the best idea to let the www know how to break into your car!
{quite! Hence the edit. DD}

It's not the staff competance that varies; it's the way that the AA staff are being treated by their new masters. Morale is on the floor; most I meet just want to take the pay-off and get out.
All their bases have been sold off [including Widmerpool Hall and, apparently, even the Ivory Tower] and their numbers have been brutally cut to improve "productivity." They now have little more than half the number of patrols that they had in the '70's - but have to cope with millions more members.
All their office and vehicle maintenance staff have gone - their Relay trucks are now parked wherever thay can find a yard and are serviced by BT!
Stenson-Cooke would have wept.

>>but have to cope with millions more members.
Not relevant. How many additional call-outs do they have to deal with ? How geographically spaced are they these days ? How has the average time to fix (or close) changed ?

Hi There, Lescargot. I just must have been unlucky then ? Years ago took 15 hours to get me from the severn bridge in wales to burnham on sea in somerset, I could have walked home faster than that. And most recently, A.A. called out to look at my clio V6. A scraping sound from underneath, the patrol mans reply "I cannot get under it mate, it is to low (my god the mind boggles) After he left I got under it myself and sorted the problem out. And worst of all, I took out special breakdown insurance with them on this car, very expensive, then there was a problem with the A.A. and the bank with regards to a direct debit, funds where in the bank, then a month later i broke down ,rang the A.A. and then they informed me that i had no special breakdown insurance with them, and I was no longer a member of the A.A.I did NOT receive anything in writing from them at all at any time(.Damn cheeky sods. They took my money and gave me nothing but grief.
Luckily, at the time I was in the R.A.C as well and they came out and sorted it........Hence my disgust with the A.A.
Cheers, Graham.

I've been a member of the RAC since i've been driving which is about 5 years now.
I find the patrol staff very helpful in cases where i've needed their assistance.

They spend too long making carp commercials, poncing thru the Highlands singing rubbish songs and getting their dreadlocks plaited - that's why they are not as good as the RAC!
