Lots is said about the dangers of not mentioning modifications to insurance companies. I am now aware of a real life example of why you should.
I've just seen a colleague parking up in a different car to her Mini. I thought she had changed, but the Mini is in for repair following an accident involving a rottweiller, her car and a dry stone wall! The dog survived untouched, the wall took minor damage, the car is a mess.
Her husband fitted the mini with after market alloys which were never mentioned to the insurance company. At first they were refusing to pay out at all, but following protest they have said they will pay out, but they want £250 extra on the premium and the excess will increase from £150 to £500, so the accident has cost the owner £750.

£250 surcharge for a set of wheels that can be bought with tyres fitted for about £500 is a bit steep! BUT if you don't comply with tiniest bit of small print on page 5 of your policy document you are done for! Davey's post tells us how it is!

If you shop around you can find mod friendly insurers and once you're kown to them the premiums are'nt that more expensive.
The fact that you've spent £0000s on modifications means that you're more likely to look after it and park in sensible locations.

Or are keener to show off your new big-bore exhaust and extra wide wheels. If I were an insurance company I'd double the ordinary premium for any modified car driven by someone under 25. Even a non-standard Kev n Shaz sticker increases the risk.

Of the 3 modifications on my 206 my insurance company didn't charge any extra for one & only £25 a time for the other 2.
Spoiler they didn't charge for, they charged extra for fitting larger alloys ( so I could fit decent tyres on ) & a stainless steel exhaust ( no its not a boy racer one just one that isnt going to fall off after 18 months like the standard one )

Bimey! An intelligent insurer! Didn't know they existed...

Look at eCar:
www.ecarinsurance.co.uk/
Run through a quote, you select mods from drop down lists, not much loading for most normal mods, same on eBike.
I have just save £220 with eCar, £450 to £230.
