Vectra TD 2.0 No Power Engine Light - jamiekellard
Please can some one help me with my Diesel 2.00 TD Vectra?

The Problem:

The past month the engine management light keeps on coming on when I go above 60 mph but not all the time but knower days it?s nearly all the time. If I stop at traffic lights and the engine is idling the management light will come on. In both cases the car loses power.

I have read a lot post and decided to replace the MAF what didn't make any difference and seams to make the problem more frequent.

I had some body plug a diagnostic computer in the car and the only fault that made since was [wire in turbo].

Please can any one can make sense of this.

Did you decide to change the MAF on the basis of what you read here or did some garage/dealer suggest it? Was the somebody who did the computer a diagnosis somebody reliable? I don't understand "wire in turbo" either! The best bet may be to get to a diesel specialist, and for a GM car, I think that means a Bosch specialist

I know this might sound really stupid but if the oil level is too high, the EM light will illuminate and reduce the power. We've had a couple of Vectra DTi's in the workshop recently for similar faults. One required a new Mass Airflow Sensor, but the other had simply been overfilled with oil by the owner. Draining off the excess oil stopped the light coming on and allowed the turbo to operate normally again.

Beans:

That very interesting and now I think about I topped the oil up the other day and since then its been worse.

My dip stick is bent so it is difficult to measure the oil and I could of easly over filled the engine. How many litres should it contain?

The guy who tested the car is realible and is from a local garage. The reason i replaced the MAF was reading all these posts and not having any other things to go on.

My dip stick is bent....

If you're refering to the "zig zag" shape approx half way along, it's meant to be like that.

No the bracket has been broken. the bolt that holds the bracket for the dip stick has been sherd of. So i have zipped tied it close the head to prevent it rubbing against the rubber hose.

Have the oil drained and only put in what the manual recommrnds as a quantity, then you don't need to look at the dipstick;if this fixes the problem, get the dipstick sorted.

Well I have fixed the main problem.

I drained the oil and replaced the oil filter and new air filter. Filled it backup with 5.5 liters and started her up and bang the light came on and stayed on straight away. Now I was really scraching my head. At this point I could have pulled my hair out, nothing made any sense. Then I decided pull the vacuum pipe of the waste gate value electric switch what is mounted on the onside. Straight away I notice there is no vacuum. I thought this was a little strange and then pulled the pipe of the right hand side of the block to see if there was any vacuum further up the system and yes there was. I traced the pipe work back and blow me one of the vacuum pipes leading to the waste gate switch had a big whole in it where it has worn against another pipe. It's funny because I was telling some body the other day that there is so many pipes rubbing and it would only be a matter of time.

So anyway I replaced the pipe with some I had lying around and it worked straight away and management light didn't come on at all.

The problem I have now is I seam to have a little lag on acceleration but only higher in the revs and was wondering if it was the turbo waste gate value being a little sticky as it hasn't been working properly in the past. Also now I have notice Black smoke when I accelerate hard and then clears outs.
