Audi TT servicing - Corrib12
My daughter has been quoted £1500 by a SW London main dealer for the replacement of the clutch on her Audi TT coupe 225. Anyone think this is slightly OTT? What alternatives are there in the Greater London area for getting this fairly exotic machinery properly cared for at a reasonable price?

It's a Golf! Surely it's possible to get such a thing replaced cheaply...couldn't a VW dealer do it? Or is that not a common part?

Can't remember which magazine it was but basically they were reporting that shopping around regionally can get you big savings. Perhaps she should try getting some quotes from some dealers Reading, Bristol way.

I think that it was even stated that you could stay in a pluch hotel for the night and have a flash meal for thr price difference between regions.

Have alook in auto trader or yellow pages for the area I think £500 to £800 should be the norm.Up here in leeds you could probably half that after all like as was said above its only a Golf.

Taking the "it's only a Golf" idea further (and knowing nothing about the insides of an Audi TT), why not get a quote from a Seat or Skoda dealer.

Leon Cupra and Octavia VRS use the same engine, so it may work.

Hi corrib12,
The book time for doing the clutch is 8.3 hours because of the quattro four wheel drive system, so at £110 an hour is very expensive (nice car though!}.Add the price of the haldex oil and filter, gearoil, clutch, dreaded vat and other consumables it might not be to far away.
Unfortunately for your wallet the drivetrain on your daughters car bears little resemblance to your average golf {except maybe the 4motion}.
If the cars driveable try to find an audi specialist, google, yellow pages, audi driver mag etc.

As mentioned above, the drivetrain on this car is nothing like the average Golf. Puzzles me why people make confident-sounding statements about a car they know nothing of...

Another problem with the TT is that they are absolutely horrible to work on because there is so little space around the components.

If it were my car I would say take it to an Audi main dealer who sees these cars regularly. An average 'Audi Independent' is unlikely to have had his hands on many, if any at all.

I would make calls to Audi dealers in cheaper parts of the country and the saving over London rates might be enough to turn the work into a 'short break'.

Further to Aprilia's point, surely it would be cheaper to drive over to mainland Europe and get it down by an Audi dealer there? A nice short break!

Unfortunately, if the clutch is gone they probably won't get far!

£110 an hour? The local Mercedes garage does it for just over £50 on older cars. I think Audi have just gone from my list of possible buyable cars!
