I've used auction buyers in the past and been completely satisfied. My impression is that they all seem to be based in the South. Does anyone know of a trustworthy auction buyer who might be attending Nottingham BCA on a regular basis? There's a car on sale up there that I'm interested in.
Any names appreciated.
Thanks,
V

I know that Joe Dowd has a contact and may be able to help you.

Whats the problem in going youself.

I live in Southampton. If I do a five hour round trip, I will probably end either overbidding as I will have invested a great deal of time in the car, or wasting a day's holiday and £40 of fuel.

I appologise but you did not mention that originally ,you can bid over the phone or leave a set high bid with the auction house.

No problem, Andy. I forget that not eveyone knows every detailabout my life!
I've called Joe Dowd, who has given me sterling service in the past and he has a contact who will be at Nottingham on Friday. Thanks again, guys.

I have been thinking of buying a car at Auction in Manchester. What sort of commission level do these experienced buyers usually take?
|
He charged me £250 (on a sub-10K car I think that's standard). His auction commission is roughly £125 less than yours would be on a £6,000 car, so you're effectively paying £125 for his services. He bought the car, I paid off his account with BCA, no problems at all; the BCA staff were great.
He phoned before the sale to tell me the condition of the car. We agreed a top bid price, and he phoned me back half an hour later to tell me it was mine.
I sent him a cheque after the event. I made it out to the wrong name, and he asked me to send a replacement. I then received a book of a dozen first class stamps for the trouble of having had to write out the cheque twice.
Absolute diamond service, and I unequivocally recommend him. Two more people I have worked with have used him since, and both have been happy.

Well, he bought me a 2002 Omega (what else?) Estate, 2.6CDX, red metallic, leather interior, 70K miles for £4,250
I consider that to be something of a steal, myself. Add on £250 (which includes the buyer's premium) and I still have a bargain, IMHO.
Off by train to collect on Monday morning.

Collected the car yesterday. Bar some hassles with my chip and non-pin card (which you couldn't make up!) the whole thing went through swimmingly.
The rear tyres were almost at their legal limit, so I popped into Micheldever on the way back and had a pair put on. Other than that, it's perfect.

Glad everything went well.
Joe says that the best cars are usually found in the south - the further away from London you go (northwards) the quality of cars drop!

Oooh, thanks for that.
Fortunately, this one seems to buck the trend up to now...
