Hi
My Astra 1.7 DTi suffers I feel from varied performance. Sluggish sometimes, fine at others.
Would a faulty MAF affect the car in this manner, or is it all or nothing? It's done 92k and it's the Isuzu 16v version.
Is it worth a prod around, only I've read on here that they are extremely fragile.
Also, would this other query be the same potential MAF problem? My engine light illuminates at motorway speeds and makes the car very responsive with lots of black smoke on acceleration.
I need expert advice. Thanks in advance.....

Don't know about the MAF but black smoke is unburnt fuel,so something is amiss.

Cheers
I've heard that black smoke could be over fuelling.
I'm guessing but I was thinking perhaps that if the MAF was reading the incorrect volume of air then the fuel delivery will be all wrong too?

Maf's normally do or do not work, sounds like dirty injectors or dirty oil

I don't post very often at all but here's a little feedback for Astra DTi owners.
All the above problems stated in the beginning of this post have all been cured by replacing the MAF Sensor.
I also posted about 6 months ago asking advice on a misfire I experienced at around 70mph. This has also been cured by the MAF replacment.
The point is, and now I know this, that there are many other problems exhibited by a faulty MAF other than just consistent sluggish performance, it even passes the MOT.
The icing on the cake here is that I managed to obtain a 6k old MAF from Ebay for £35 as opposed to paying £140 for a brand new one.
So I hope this helps and maybe other Astra DTi owners won't be scratching their heads for as long as I did, I just thought somebody might like to know.

Well, I'd like to say many thanks for posting up the end result and I'm sure it WILL help other owners with similar problems. I wish I could get similar advice regarding a problem on another Vauxall, this time a Frontera, but advice appears a bit elusive!
