At the risk of being reiterative (!) why don't you try CIS?

I second Adrian Flux.
When I BSR PPC software tuned my V70 2.4T they were by far the most professional broker to respond. Considering the massive jump in car performance, the corresponding increase in premium over the two direct insurers that had previously insured the car in standard form was small, too.

Wish I had a helpful idea, but I'm posting to say that I'm curious about how you got on with Stelios (Eastmoney), as advertised here.
(I'm with Ford Insure, btw - but no doubt you've tried them.)
|
Thanks for the replies.
I tried CIS and let's just say they're not competitive.
Adrian Flux I haven't tried yet. They're closed now so I'll try tomorrow.
Tyro - I tried Mr Easyjet himself - waste of time. At least for me anyway. I've got to be honest with you, I never even knew Ford Insure exisited. I'm getting a quote as we speak but I notice they're underwritten by my good friends.
I post back in a bit.

Oh - and Kevin, I think you're thinking of something else. The Focus saloon is the most stylish looking Ford of all time.

Can't get an online quote with Ford Insure apparently. I'll ring them tomorrow too.
Thanks

I always use Coversure for my private hire policy and SWMBO's Yaris. They are very good, give them a ring - 0870 458 5675

Sorry Adski, I should have said: Coversure are/is an insurance broker
|
Ford Insure aren't normally that good for younger drivers, but just occasionally they used to suprise me so definately worth a go.
You will of course have tried Elephant? They were cheaper than NU Direct for me, by about £100 IIRC.
Failing that www.liverpoolvictoria.co.uk are always worth a look, they undercut CIS by £1500 when I insured with them when I was 18. Not very good quote at all I'm afraid now though, but again, still worth a look.

drbe,
I always assumed that a broker did for me what I'm doing now and took a piece of the money. Because I'm so risky, I thought that this would work out more expensive but I'm willing to give Coversure a shot.
Blue - yes - Ford Insure aren't that good for young drivers apparently. I tried myself on a new Fiesta 1.4 TDCi (I'm using that as a benchmark) and they did come out pretty much on top though. Sadly, I don't have a Fiesta 1.4 TDCi so I can't use them.
I keep hearing Elephant! Elephant!! but there must be something wrong with where I live because they're not even close to the lowest quote. I tried them again yesterday and they weren't having any of it.
Just looked at LV again (they have been good with the parents in the past). £1160 TPFT. Their fully comp quote is £1300. Again, if I could drive another car third party on this occasionally then I'd have it but I think my age works against me.
Thanks again for the continued help. I do appreciate it but it looks like I'll be eating a little humble pie....anyone care to join me?

I know your situation is different to mine, but try Abbey & Bragg (brokers in St Albans). They used to be Quotebusters. I've been with NIG through them for many years and my renewals have been consistently lower than anything I've found on the web. In fact the last renewal on the Celica was £266 and I didn't bother to look anywhere else.
A couple of years ago I got the value of my written-off 75 upped from an initial offer of £900 to £1500.
The phone number is 01727 873500.
|
I've given up for today but I've made a note of the phone numbers and will try them all tomorrow.
Many thanks for all of your help. I do appreciate it.

Odd, Endsleigh insured me via Norwich Union, £850 third party fire and theft, 306 dturbo (96/97), IG 5.
Wonder what happened there.

Sorry I'm going to look a bit thick here, but what is 75? I thought Rover 75 at first, but surely even the oldest one still on the road can't be worth as little as £1500?

All the clues are there, young master Blue.
Alfa 75
Some argue the last of the real (RWD) Alfas, especially with the 3.0 V6

Looking at his name i presume he means the Alfa Romeo 75 - a big old rusty barge from the late 80's/early 90's.

who? me? Never!

Absolutely no rust on the Alfa 75 and certainly not a barge you cheeky young whippersnapper. You're thinking of the Alfasud, several of which were disappearing even as I was driving and enjoying the finest handling car of any era!
Bah! Youngsters!!

Adam, try confused.com, they search a lot of available insurers. And don't worry about different brokers selling insurance for the same underwriter - we had quotes last year which were cheaper from Diamond than from Elephant, even though both are underwritten by Admiral. Quote was in my wife's name and Diamond specialise in insuring women. Same sort of concept for Adrian Flux, Endsleigh and others - they claim to provide better cover for a particular demographic.
Good luck, I know it's a pain. Have to do it myself over the next couple of weeks.

I can't believe there's really a confused.com!
But Adam, good luck in your search, I know what a pain in the butt it can be. In fact I will have it all over again when I get new car.
If I were you, I'd take very seriously the advice offered to you by Blue, I think he's of a similar age and gone through the ssame experiences you're going through now.
Good luck, take care,

"I can't believe there's really a confused.com"
I thought it was your personal domain HF :)
ps see ya later, that's if you're still speaking to me. ;)
|
I'm still talking to you if you take me to view cars tomorrow.
And yup, you're right, I should have grabbed that particular domain shouldn't I?
Adam, sorry for taking up your thread.

HF - I'd be welcome of any distraction from insurance so be my guest!
Thanks again for the help people. I've tried Confused but in a lot of the cases, they're returning quotes from companies I've tried but with a considerable amount more which kinda rules that out.
I received a letter today from an insurance company quoting me not a cheap price but certainly one of the more competitive ones. It would have been competitive had the "offer" not expired on the 21st May. The letter was dated 3 days ago.
Madness.
Thanks again anyway - the search goes on.

Adam, we're talking about £200 here, not the price of a couple of pints.
Get back on to your existing insurers and explain again about the online quote and that you fail to see why you can't have the insurance on that basis. You never know, you may get to speak to someone for whom a) English is their native tongue and b) actually knows something about customer service, not call centre turn-around targets.
You know it makes sense.
Oh, and if it works I expect the price of a couple of pints as my fee. Although you'll have to drink them for me, as I don't anticipate any contracts in your neck of the woods in the next 6 months.
|
Alan,
quite clearly you've never been on a night out with me ;-)
Seriously though, I explained the entire situation with them about how it seems ridiculous being screwed over for my loyalty but they didn't seem to understand what I was saying. Whenever I've been on the blower to them, I've been speaking to an Indian who seems to have been taught standard English phrases. Heaven help you if you need to ask a question that hasn't been covered.
Having said that, you are usually the voice of reason so I will be ringing them again. They get one last chance and then that's it.
No matter what happens, everyone on here deserves a pint for all the help they've given me. The 200 quid should cover that nicely!
You still owe me a drive in the Alfa though. We'll sort out the drinks then.

You're on. Next time I'm within 90 minutes drive of your neck of the woods we'll do it. I have a bit of family history to research in your neighbourhood(ish). My great grandfather resided in Nightingale Square on Hopwood Street prior to his demise near Ypres in 1917 and since the death of my gran last year various members of the family have started poking around the family tree. As usual, they end up asking me the questions ::shrugs::
|
Ahh yes. Nightingale Square - I know it well :-)
What more could you want - find out your family history, and have a few pints while you're at it.
Sorted.

Ok, Adam, I'm not gonna try and take up your thread again, but I really would recommend that you might talk with Blue Oval? I have known him for quite a while on here and couldn't find a lovelier or more helpful person, truly, and I have seen him go through the same kind of insurance problems as you are now.
Please, if you can, give him an email or try and find him on here. I wouldn't normally vouch for anyone, but this is one person that I would trust with my life. Doesn't hurt asking, eh?
Good luck Adam,
HF
|
HF,
Are you on about Blue? I can't recall seeing a Blue Oval on here. If only a helpful, intelligent and downright witty mod were to toddle along and help me out...

Adam
|
I'll have to do. Blue used to be Blue Oval.
Does Nightingale Square still exist then? I know it was there in 1955 but that's the most recent reference I found using Google.

Gotta be honest mate, I was trying to pull off a bit of sarcasm - Dave style.
Thanks for the info on Blue.

Yes, I think you probably were.

Blimmin 'eck, when's a girl ever gonna get some rest?! Yes, Adam, as ND has kindly confirmed, I do indeed mean Blue. He's a good mate of mine and I think he might be able to give you some advice.
HF

Oi, don't be sarky to me! DD I can handle, you're unknown territory as yet!!
Seriously take care Adam and let us know how you get on.
HF
|
Well well well. Welllity wellllity wellity.
Guess what I got in the post today? Yep - a renewal quote from the company for £888.
Now - based on the fact that no-one can even come close to that quote (no-one could come that close to £967 to be honest) and of course that I'm a man of few principles, (or at least none worth more than £100) I have decided I'm probably going to take the quote.
I'm not made up but it is the cheapest and it seems silly to "make a point" with a company who isn't going to notice whether I'm there or not.
At the end of the day, it's all about building up a history for me and I am happy that I'm going to be paying less than a grand.
In any event, thank you very very much for your extended help. I know I always say it but I do appreciate it. There's not much more I can say other than, if ever I see one of you, let me buy you a pint. No excuses now that I've made a saving!
Thanks again,
