Hi,
Does anyone know the best way to get insurance cover for a single day? I've got to drive a friend's car up the country and although my policy gives me 3rd party I'd like to get fully comp on this car, just for the day.
Thanks in advance,

We need this soon, as SWMBO wants to try a MINI for longer than the usual up-the-road test drive. I'll ask my usual broker to arrange it, and I would imagine they'd do it even if you aren't a regular cuatomer. Sheraton Insurance Brokers: 01329 833250.

Did this recently with youngest son. Churchill was the insurer. Any individual (or number of individuals) can have from 1 to 90 days temporary insurance in one year. Just ring up when you want it and pay with a card for the time you want. Works out at £10 for one day but goes down if you buy more. 17 days was £70 as he did a lot of driving over the easter hols. All the excesses get loaded for a provisional teenager as well but it's better than paying £80 per month and having months when they don't use the car at all.

If it's not your car then you shouldn't insure it as (in theory) you cannot insure something that you do not own. Churchill may bend the rules if they want to but you must tell them it's not your car to avoid problems in the event of a claim.
The correct way is to simply add yourself to the owners existing policy for the one day.

Going to Belgium on business in July. Three of us going and taking my car. It has cost me the princely sum of £10.50 to add the other two as drivers for a week.

Slight digression I know, but what about special one-day insurance for doing a lap or two on the Nürburgring? This is routinely excluded from private cover because - regardless of the driver's intentions - it is inevitably perceived as high risk / racing / time trial / whatever. Anyone had experience?

Track cover is a specialist item. Most will not touch it; you will need an experenced broker - usually one with a penchant for track days himself.
Try searching the Porsche Club forum/Ferrari owners club etc etc.

AON used to include track day cover with their mx5 owners club deal. No longer.
I was quoted circa £250 for a days bike cover for the 'ring. Didn't bother. Might make you drive a tad more sensibly.

Thanks for advice. With the best will in the world I might just get in the way of the odd Ferrari, or the odd milk float could get in my way. Not worth it really, better to spectate.
