I have just seen some photos of the 159 and I am glad to see that it has not departed a great deal from the look of the 156, whilst still managing to look fresh and new.
I have seen many internet references to this car being referred to as the 157. How has this come about? Is there to be a 157?

People assumed it'd be 157 as the natural successor to 156.
However, because the smaller model in the 147 (which in turn is because the 145 5dr was called a 146) and they want their next series of cars to be brought into line, it was decided to call them 148 and 158.
Why they've now changed it to 159, I have no idea.
Although, actually I may have remembered hearing something about the 156 already being called the 158 in Japan because 8 is a lucky number. Maybe that's why?

I think it is because the most famous post war Alfa F1 car was called the Alfa Tipo 159 monoposto, this is named after that. (thats what Ive read somewhere anyway)

Looks good in the photo's - evolutionary, rather than revolutionary which shows good sense given the (relative) success of the 156.
200bhp 2.4 diesel does it for me.

I know a lot of people who aren't happy with those rear door handles though.

when the 156 was launched it was fresh, new and very different.
sadly this car is none of those things.
Alfas rep for poor quality plus an ordinary design will doom this car to very poor sales IMO :(

JaB, I hope (and think) that you will be wrong but we will just have to wait and see. Why consign a design as good as the 156 to the waste bin?
I would have one if my wife didn't need an automatic. It would be wonderful if they had an auto option on the diesels, then we would have one.

I hope they get away from those stick on plastic sill extensions as used on some models like the GTA versions. It looks really cheap when they do this, it would be more professional to use whole steel ones like the GT 125.
