A fully comp insurance policy, bought online, is about to end.
I am thinking about the possibility of the having a TPTF insurance for just six weeks.
During that time the car will be off the road, in the drive and not driven. As far as I know we are not in a risky area.
A normal annual insurance would then recommence.

1.Is such insurance possible?
The objective is to save money and to move the renewal date.
2.Is it going to save any money?
3. Is it a case of an annual policy and then cancel to get a refund? I guess a cancellation fee will be charged.
4.I assume it would be through a broker. Will the cost of not using an online site be more expensive than the potential savings?
5.Or is it simpler with a phone call to extend the existing policy by six weeks which will at least achieve one objective in moving the renewal date?

6.If you buy a policy online and several months later move to a higher risk area obviously the insurance co would be informed and an additional premium incurred. Is there an additional charge for not doing it online?

7. Any companies recommended for to talk to?

If you're putting the car back on the road within 6 weeks it may just be cheaper to take out a normal policy in the normal way.

If you want to save money and the car will be off the road for the duration when it is not insured, then one option may be just to do without. How much is the car worth etc?

What are you trying to do ?

IF you're trying to save money because the car will nto be in use, then you're going the wrong way about it.

Firstly, you will not need TP insurance unless its on the road. So are you just looking for Fire and THeft ?

IF so, renew the insurance, or take out a new one whichever works for you, then tell them that your car will be laid up for 6 weeks and so you only want cover for F&T theft risks.

However, they probably won't do it unless its in a garage and its probably not worth the effort anyway.

If there's mroe to it than that, then please expand on the problem and I'll think again.

Remove the battery from the car and the risk of fire and theft diminishes considerably.

Thanks for replies to date. Food for thought.

Car is my daughters and is valued at about £5K.
I am looking after it and giving a blast every couple of weeks while she is abroad for most of the year.
Fully comp insurance is costing about £10 a week.
The six weeks of F & T would also move the next full years insurance start date beyond her next birthday. Will that reduce premiums. She is older than 25 now.

I consider the theft risk is low in my area and the car is not on any obvious hit list. I am a little nervous of having no insurance with it not garaged.

how about an agreed milage policy from one of the classic car brokers? Footman james / adrian flux c. Would they cover something non-classic for 1000 miles/year or something?

Thanks for the info. Spot on advice.
FJ has given me a very low quote for 1500 miles.
Still impressive at 3000 miles, an extra £100 and still way cheaper.
I think it is worth it even with NO protected NCD allowed (needs 5 years minimum)

Awaiting AF quote.

I will try Confused.com again but it kept bombing out last time so was not very impressed.
I am not expecting a better quote than FJ. So far roughly half the other quotes.

my problem is slightly different. I insured my daugher who is learning to drive at a cost of £60 extra a month on the monthly premium. However she is very choosy when she actually goes out in our car often it's once a month so i am paying out good money for little return. Is there no way I can ring up and pay a fixed premium for a single day rather than have to pay out in case she feels like driving?

An alternative solution. Arnold Clark in Edinburgh hire out dual control cars for learners by the hour (I think about £10/hour). Cheaper than £60/month especialiiy for very occasional use.May be someone local to you doing the same.

My girlfriend has just had a similar situation - bought a new car so transferred her existing policy over to that but also still had the old car, which she wanted to sell privately. After contacting her existing insurers (Direct line) they gave her 1 months FREE insurance on her old car - yes you read it correctly FREE & then charged her per month after that (around £30 I think. When she sold the car halfway through the month they even refunded the remaining 2 weeks !!!
