My son's almost 17 and plans to insure a Peugeot 106 (1100cc petrol, cover for 3P F&T) in his own name, so he can start hopefully to earn his own 'spurs' in the no-claims bonus world. Can anyone suggest any insurers/brokers who you know can be competitve in this situation? Thanks.

Speaking purely from experience, Tesco online were the best for me. I went Third Party only though given the cost but it was good simply getting 1 years no claims. I'm sure others will have suggestions.

It's good he's building up no claims - the majority of people at Uni are insured on their parent's policy and really are throwing money away - at some point they'll have to insure it in their own name.

Just one last note, prepare for a shock. You know it will be expensive but I recommend sitting down before getting a quote...

Good luck

As a 20 year old who passed my test in March this year, I found that Endsleigh and Norwich Union to give me the best price. Get him to take Pass Plus, that slashed my insurance quite a bit with Norwich Union.

I'll second NeilB's comment. If your with Churchill like I am (amazing that they're actually the cheapest quote for me) then they treat a PassPlus course as one year's no-claims bonus.

No one company is ever the cheapest for everyone, they specialise in different risks. Having said that, confused.com returns lots of good quotes and saves an awful lot of work.

I'll be impressed if the above-mentioned 17 year old manages anything less than £800 fully comp. When you're still in your teens, it's quite prudent to drive a £500 banger and go for TPFaT.

Churchill will only insure you if you are 21...that's what they told me anyway.

Hi,

Last year, my first lot of insurance, was cheapest with Norwich union who bettered others by about £100.

This year, my second lot, was cheapest with Admiral who managed to lob £200 off what Norwich union were going to charge, which was actually no cheaper than the first year!

Must admit, alot of people say Tesco and Endsleigh are good, but they couldn't help me much.

Its best just to shop around, but beware, online quotes seem to differ considerably to what they tell you over the phone.
