Golf Driver,1.6,1989,112k-Has anyone heard about a mod which supposedly stops the annoying symptoms of carb icing on Pierburg 2E2 carbs in cold/wet weather?Ive heard a few people mention such a thing, but what is the mod,and where do you find out about it,apart from going direct to VW HQ?Any help much appreciated.

The usual problem is the heat pipe between exhaust and air filter splitting or just falling off, the second problem is the failure of the thermostat/valve that operates the air filter flap.

There is a vaccum operated valve on the air filter.this controls diverter flap. ie. the flap/valve is located close to pipe connected to exhaust manifold heat shield. if vaccum pipes work will open this so as exhaust heats up. heat Is drawn in to manifold. so aiding warm up/preventing freezing. if the pipes or valves leak/fail. icing will occur. common prob with pierburg. though not the only carb to suffer it. Not certain about any mods. though may be wrong?
