Changed insurer a little over a week ago but I've not had a proof of bonus from my old insurer yet. How long do these tend to take to come through? It's nearly a fortnight since I confirmed I wouldn't be going with that broker again due to price and was told they'd get this to me. I can't actually chase them up until Saturday anyway due to their opening hours, but I was wondering how long this normally takes and if I'm expecting too much to get it within a week or so.
Just hope Tesco are prepared to wait...

I had this when I left Norwich Union a couple of months ago - part of the reason I left them was that the admin side of the business was a complete shambles.
Anyway, despite numerous reminders, they did not send through the NCB proof. In the end, I rang up my new insurer (Admiral) and they said they would ring NU to get confirmation that I had the NCB that I claimed I was entitled to.
They then rang me back (2 minutes later) to say that they had spoken to NU, and all was OK.
I think you have 28 days to prove your NCB entitlement, or they void your policy - but ring up Tesco and ask them to call up your old insurers.

I don't think they can void your policy if you have made a payment. More likely they would want the full premium and would give a refund when the proof of NCB turned up. Doesn't your renewal notice give details of your bonus entitlement and/or couldn't an insurer work out that your renewal premium must include a no-claims element? Ie £260 full comp for a Golf Gti is not the full gross premium, for anyone!

When I transferred from Eagle Star to NU Direct, they charged me on the basis of NCB I mentioned to them on the phone. When I asked where to send proof, they said it wasn't required. Perhaps they are part of the same group?

My old broker got around that by not sending me a renewal notice with a quote, just a letter telling me to call them as I needed to renew so all I have is a verbal quote and verbal confirmation of what NCD I have from them, nothing at all from the ins. co. themselves...

I think you will find that if your previuos insurance company does not supply you with proof of NCD that any new insurance company is able to check that you are telling the truth, if you supply details of the previous insurance. They wont want to lose your custom for the sake of a phone call.In fact it would not suprise me if all details are not computerised for the use of all insurance companies.

Any companies or brokers I have had dealings with all seem to be on some kind of network for exchanging information. I have never been asked for proof of NCB - I assume they just find out for themselves.
Likewise the car details. As soon as I give the registration number, they just ask me to confirm make, model, year. They all seem to have everybody's information already to hand.
Thank goodness we don't live in a police state! (joke)

Tesco sent me a 7 day notice of cancellation after they lost my proof of NCB. When I phoned them, they made a call to my previous insurer while I hung on and it was all sorted out. However, it would have been helpful if they could have phoned me before issuing the cancellation notice.

Just to update this thread, am having one of those 'why me' moments at the moment. Phoned Tesco and they were more than happy to call my old company to get confirmation of NCD. I also mentioned they'd got the reg. no. wrong so the said they'd send out a new set of documentation and that I wasn't to return the old lot.
Just got a letter from them today, the old company say the policy is still in force so they want £230-odd more off me and are threatening to withdraw the policy completely as I've not yet returned the documentation.... (Not had the new lot yet)
Won't be able to phone the old lot to find out what is going on as they close at 5:20 so that'll have to wait until tomorrow.... Why am I doomed to have hassle with insurers? Even when I go with one that is generally accepted as being good I have trouble...
