"You bought a WHAT?" - Ian (Cape Town)
Following on from mark and Rob's discussion of busses, ferraris purchased without the consent of SWMBO...
I once bought a VW 181 'Thing' - the 70s version of the kubelwagen. basic square design, ragtop, fold down windscreen etc.
I thought it would make a great weekend runabout.
It was in canary yellow, but I had it repainted in matt grey, had it heightened by 4 inches, and fitted some great big rally tyres.
The young lady of my affection took one look and said: "I am not going anywhere in that with you."
And she wouldn't.

Anyway, the novelty wore off after a while, and needs changed, so it got sold on ... in hindsight, it was a real "big boy's Toy".

Anyone else had similar experiences?

You bought a Kubelwagon.
You thought it was a cuddle-wagon.
But it wasn't.
Serves you right for not checking the spelling!

lol that reminds me of something my grandad did.

He went out and brought himself a top of the line volvo without my nan's knowledge. He then arranged a 'boat trip' as a special treat and picked her up from work in the new car. She said 'whats this! youve brought a new car, how silly is that! bla bla bla' anyway, as their driving along she warms to the car a bit more....they get to the boat and after about 30 mins on it my grandad says to her 'do you like it?' and she says 'yes, its quite nice'. He replies 'well ive brought this as well' - and she went MENTAL! - she made him drop her off at the nearest port and never stepped back on the boat....needless to say it was sold within the year.

Been there, done that.

Bought a 1959 Daimler Ferret

A sort of pocket-sized (4.5 tons)armoured car.

Road registered and fully legal it is a vehicle you can take down the supermarket with little fear of trooley scratches or careless door-openers.

Still got it.

Up for sale now - GBP 2,950 anybody?

Went out, got tired an emotional in a Spanish bar bought it off my father's neighbour.

SWMBO said "Fine dear - but how are you going to get it home ?"

So I drove it....she loves it though !
