A question about tyres?

The tyres on the front have worn on the outside edges very badly but not on the rest of the width of the tyre. ive had the tracking checkd and all is ok with that. ive done some reaserch on the web and people are saying to fit xl tyres. when doing a serch on line most XL tyres seem to be for 4x4s would 4x4 tyres be on a people carrier?

XL tyres are suitable for estates, 4*4s and any larger (heavier) car. Basically, the sidewall is a bit stiffer, meaning that the tyre suffers less deformation in normal driving.

Looking at one of the tyre sites, that car does require a quite heavy load rated tyre (100) so an XL tyre would almost be standard.

Thanks RobJP the tyres fitted to it are 98 load raiting and were fitted to the car when i bought it over a year ago. when looking on line most of the xl tyres that ae 215 65 r16 seem to be 4x4 tyres woukld these be ok?

Have a look at some van tyres, that is what I had on my people carrier and they have a great load rating and were at the time cheaper than the car tyres for it. They also lasted ages.

Got new tyres fitted this morning, pirille scorpion xl rated. Went to a local tyre place they wasn't as cheap as online but not much more expensive. So far so good they seem better in the wet than the Bridgstone duler hp tyres that were fitted they don't seem as skittish or tramline like the Bridgstone tyres did.
