BUS DRIVERS ! - Again - oldroverboy.

On the bus today going into Colchester and our lovely "chauffeur" decided to get our heartbeats racing by going through a red light when it had changed way in front of him and he was not actually going all that fast.

Am i being cruel, I reported him to the bus company, as there were elderly people on the bus who could have been hurt.

And potentially pedestrians and other motorists. You were quite right to report him, ORB.

Definitely the right thing to do! It could have been alot worse.

Bus companies don't tolerate bad driving. If he's had previous complaints and warnings, he could get the tin tack. Usually it's an asked to resign ultimatum.
How I know, I retrained as a bus driver following my retirement from fire service.
They stipulate a no nonsense approach to safety of passengers and other road users. That sort of driving puts their franchise at stake if they're not performing well. So the management rule their drivers with an iron fist.
The drivers know this from the start, so there is no excuse for poor driving. Many routes have mystery passengers on board who report on bus companies which can see them fined.
I'd say he deserves what's coming.

Glad you reported him. Driving like that gets us all tarred with the same brush.

At my company, a complaint like that would get the cctv pulled from the bus sharpish, followed by an invitation for the driver to explain himself to management.

A first offence would probably result in a monumental b*****king, swiftly followed by a spell in remedial training. Repeat offenders would be invited to resign....

I said on another thread a few weeks ago that Colchester Corporation (as was) was notorious for having bad bus drivers and the only time I travelled on one of their buses bore that out. Seems like nothing has changed in 40 years!

You base your opinion on something forty years ago. Well you're wrong. Things have changed. Things are just highlighted more today. Step on a bus today you will have a complaint number to ring or email address to write to. Didn't happen back when you stepped on that trolley. The industry has no problem dismissing bad drivers, unlike way back then. More people complain about bus services than they did in the dim and distant past.

That the buses are frequently late ok! That often our route [no2] loses a bus in the horkesley triamgle.... OK. That it will go sailing by ignpring the 10 outstretched hands ok. [that one got a surprise as 4 of us rang up] [and he was told of his duties] all the above. OK...

But going through a red light, well... It's a Red Line. Innit.

Np buses today... It's Carnival..

London buses run reds with the same alacrity alleged of cyclists. The junction of Gt George St with Parliament Sq is one hotspot. Another is the exit from Euston Station's bus stands onto/across Eversholt St.
