Volkswagen Caddy Maxi Life - Volkswagen - Apple1

We have a VW Cady and steering wheel started peeling of at the bottom right after 2 years (24,000 miles) of usage. It is rather starge that we have never seen it before.

Dealer says it is wear and tear but how can it be? Even the tyres outside is lasting longer than the steering.
