Bmw X6 - Unknown button in bmw footwell

Bmw X6 - Unknown button in bmw footwell - bmw406
Hi, new to the forums just bought a bmw x6 and found a button which I can't find any reference to in the manuals any ideas what it does?


It is a 2008 x35d and the button is in the drivers footwell area. Nothing evident happens except it lights up as an orange led but it must have a function?

Why not ask in a BMW showroom or the previous owner.

The light sounds like it part of the ambient lighting. So i asme the switch turns the ambient lighting on/off.

If its not in the manual then i suggest its something fitted at Thorne/Immingham import centre when new or aftermarket.

Does the car have LPG? or possibly an upgraded alarm system, its possibly a button to disable the interior movement sensors if you were to leave someone or an animal in the car whilst you popped into the shops.

No LPG it's a diesel, here's a link to the pic. Will test out the lighting and interior sensor

I might have to pop into a dealer to find out. Bought from a garage who don't know what it does.

That is a DIY switch, doubt if a dealer would know without investigating.

Your best bet would be to speak to the previous owner.

This is a non standard switch and has been added by a previous owner.It looks like a regular on/off switch that could be used for any additional media /phone install or rear entertainment systemhth

Could it be an aftermarket switch to activate / deactivate an engine remap?

Thanks. Had a mechanic look at it today and they have confirmed it is an aftermarket switch. Next job is to trace it and see what it does.
